What Do Leading Democrats Believe In? Trump may be batshit crazy, but he does take a stand, e.g.,"Build the wall." The best way to defeat Trump in 2020 is to go bold: to nominate a candidate with strong core beliefs. A candidate who connects with young and old and who inspires enthusiastic participation. That's Bernie.

Mitch McConnell: Trump of the Senate As soon as Barack Obama was sworn in as president, McConnell imposed a permanent filibuster on all legislation and appointments, thereby bringing the concept of "obstructionism" to a whole new level. He blocked every single judicial appointment Obama made, no matter how moderate his choices were or how much previous support they enjoyed from Republican Senators.

Why White Evangelicals Dote on Wayward Trump It's impossible to figure why so many white Christian evangelicals dote on Donald Trump. Trump is twice divorced and thrice married. He's evidently been a serial adulterer. He talks dirty. He lies non-stop. He's less than well-versed in Holy Scripture. He seems to prefer golf to going to church on Sunday.

Like an Arsonist Returning to the Smoldering Ashes Like an arsonist returning to look at the smoldering ashes, Donald Trump went to Pittsburgh on October 30 to contemplate the synagogue slaughter he helped cause. "Contemplate," though, is probably the wrong word, since contemplation implies thought and inner reflection, and Trump is capable of neither.

Something for Democrats and Republicans in Bob Woodward's "Fear: Trump in the White House" In 1972, an apparently botched burglary attempt occurred at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) headquarters at the Watergate Hotel in Washington, DC. Pursuing the story, a pair of Washington Post reporters exposed the Watergate scandal, resulting in the resignation of President Richard Nixon. Woodward is one of the two reporters (the other Carl Bernstein) who unraveled the Watergate story.

How to Kill the Free Press Trump has spread distrust of the mainstream media, so that their reporting about his words and his administrative actions is not believed by his supporters. He goads those who attend his rallies to shout "CNN sucks," calls journalists "horrendous people", and lately uses the phrase "enemy of the people" to describe the mainstream media in general.

"Staining Our Country" Sir, or Donald, or Trumputin, whatever you are called, YOU are the one staining our country, with your tweets and treasonous conduct and coverups. You and your borderline-Alzheimers "advisor" Rudy Giuliani have been ejaculating "whiffle dust" everywhere to create confusion in the media (which you call "fake news") as to what is going on.

Collusion Takes Many Forms Andrea Mitchell's interview with Coats is downright chummy. It's all very polite and non-confrontational, with Mitchell hinting we all should be very concerned and nervous about Trump negotiating alone with Putin.

"Only Congress Can Fix It" Trump intended to hold these children hostage in order to extract concessions. That he imagined that most people would be okay with this is testament to his egregious deficiency in empathy for anyone who doesn't agree with him. That he yielded so quickly to widespread protest and pressure shows that, no matter how truculent he is, he will back off if confronted. So it is with bullies.

So Much Winning The Bolton-Pompeo-Donald model of war-diplomacy holds that for the U.S. to "win," both North Korea and Iran must "lose." This is similar to the argument that for the U.S. to "win" material comfort, everyone else must "lose" by resource looting, climate change, rising sea levels, and worse weather events. But there is nothing inherent or logical in this model.

Trumpspeak Is Newspeak Trumpspeak is America's version of Newspeak. Whatever you choose to call it, the intent is clear: the control of thought through the elimination of certain words and concepts. The destruction of certain words and concepts within the Trump administration include refugees, climate change, greenhouse gases, America as a nation of immigrants, and even the notion of science-based evidence.

Rex Tillerson: Day Late, Dollar Short Tillerson warned of a growing crisis in which American democracy is in danger of entering its twilight years if held captive to alternative realities, and continually returned to the notion that truth and the facts were the glue which held us together. Where was such indignant adherence to these noble virtues when it counted?

The Strange Collection of Extremists Running for Office as Republicans White supremacists, Infowars conspiracy theorists and convicted criminals are running, some as viable candidates, on the GOP ticket on the state and federal level, something which would have been unheard of only a few years ago. Such individuals are not barred from putting their hat in the ring and aspiring for elected office, but it is remarkable that party leaders have by and large not shown the backbone to condemn them.

President for Life? Pardons would not end their troubles. There could be state crimes not covered by the Presidential pardons, and the New York AG Eric Schneiderman is already preparing charges to be filed. Michael Cohen's antics in New York City may add to the list of charges. Even with the pardons, Mueller would issue a report to Congress which could form the basis for Trumputin's impeachment, which cannot be pardoned.

Trump's Crass Anti-Intellectualism The in-your-face confrontational style of right-wing celebrities such as Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly have also contributed to a coarsening of our culture. Unfortunately, the crassness and anti-intellectualism of President Trump are not aberrations in our culture, but a reflection of our darker side.

Relative Madness Trump's daughter and son-in-law run amok in the White House as senior advisers to the president, sorely lacking security clearances, much less the requisite qualifications and experience. And his two sons run the family business from which Trump has refused to divest, ignoring conflicts of interests and reneging on promises to not engage in new foreign deals.

David Cay Johnston: Trump's Worse Than You Think David Cay Johnston is a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter who has been following Trump for three decades and is arguably more familiar with the man than most, if not all reporters. He shines a light on the political termites who have infested our government ... destroying it from within.

Joe Arpaio: Watch Whiteness Work There is some irony in the fact that a pardoned convicted felon with a history of criminalizing people of color and violating their civil rights now has the opportunity to run for the Senate. Welcome to the future of the GOP, where serious character flaws are no obstacle for higher office. Arpaio, with his record of race-based traffic stops and immigration checks, said he is running "for the good of our country."

Broadening the Scope of Sexual Abuse What if we broadened the scope of what is "sexual abuse"? What if we said that using government money to teach little children that girls are inferior, and that boys should be allowed to "have their way" with girls, IS sexual abuse? What if we said that employers, or fathers, or politicians telling women how to live their own sex lives IS sexual abuse?
