Corporate media isn't independent media, however, and it isn't about informing the public on real horrors of war. Rather it's all about profit margin and for corporate media an entertaining war boosts ratings and is very, very profitable. This fact automatically gave the Pentagon a leg up on the propaganda front.

In addition, the Defense Department, in cooperation with their corporate media pals, developed the quant "yellow ribbon" campaign in support of America's mighty and brave troops. Americans ate it up and from Main Street to Maple Avenue towns and cities were a sea of heart-warming yellow ribbons.

Instead of an independent media's non-biased coverage of war Americans only received one perspective war---the military's.

Given the new satellite technology CNN and other corporate media outlets dazzled the viewing public with their brave, patriotic military in action.

The Museum of Broadcast Communications states on its site-- "For the first time, people all over the world were able to watch live pictures of missiles hitting their targets and fighters taking off from aircraft carriers from the actual perspective of the machinery. The images of precise land bombing and use of night vision equipment gave the reporting a futuristic spin which was said to resemble video game imagery and encourage the "war drama". "

They go on to say- "The media also had access to military innovations, such as the imagery obtained from camera-equipped high-tech weaponry directed against Iraqi targets."

What Americans didn't see, however, was the senseless death, maiming, carnage or horrors of war.

This was reflected in the polling with ABC News/Washington Post indicating a staggering 79% support for the Persian Gulf War. All of this to the military Industrial complex's and Pentagon's delight. Americans were as it seems, completely gullible and more than willing to support Imperialism without question.
