When the wars unexpectedly dragged on until 2008 along came Barak Obama with a glib tongue and a pocket full of empty promises. The anti-war movement vanished as quickly as it began in part because now these were now their messiah's war and partly because Obama had promised to end the two wars in a swift and just manner.

Obama's investment in propaganda

Far from ending the wars Obama was hellbent on expanding them further to include in total seven nations who are completely innocent. Obama's ridiculous "regime change" policy reduced formerly stable, secular nations such as Syria and Libya to rubble and resulted in the worst refugee crisis in history.

In his eight years Obama conducted over 500 ruthless drone strikes on not only terrorists, but on schools, hospitals and even wedding parties. Contrast this to GW Bush's mere 52 drone strikes.

The Noble Peace Prize laureate also had no moral objection to the Pentagon spending billions on pro-military domestic propaganda. Politico reported at the time that the Pentagon approached Congress for the funding in order to do just that.

"The Defense Department said it needed $988 million to help win hearts and minds in the new fiscal year beginning Oct. 1." (2009)

Democratic Representative, John Murtha, an old-school marine himself, was a strong voice of dissent. He took his concerns to Senate Appropriations Committee Chair, Daniel Inouye, the Democrat from Hawaii.

"I just don't like the idea of the military being in the propaganda business," Murtha was quoted as saying at the time.
