It's getting tough to distinguish who's right and who's left anymore-everyone loves war.
Liberals who logically should be opposing these Imperialist wars are quick to attach soldiers to any cause they possibly can. Liberal activists are actually glorifying the creation of the very warriors whose action they claim to oppose. You would be hard pressed to observe any protest without liberals dragging along a few Veterans.
They're always quick to point out that one in four of American homeless are veterans, so society therefore, must be unfair to veterans. The issue of the homeless is a national disgrace for anyone to suffer, but the high percentage of veterans simply means that more Americans overall are veterans and more of them are also homeless.
Liberals are essentially requesting special housing privileges for homeless veterans when they should be demanding an end to the wars which created both. When all of a nation's resources are paying for war, the very conditions which create homelessness can never be addressed.
The Pentagon vows there will never be another Vietnam
How did we get to this war-sick, insane state of affairs?
The sixties posed a real problem for the profiteers of war. The military industrial complex, the wealthy powers that be and the profits of the manufacturers of war-Lockheed Martin or Boeing. For the first time there was a rebellious young generation intrinsically and vocally opposed to Imperialist war.
There was also an extremely unpopular draft mandating participation in a war that very few would ever willingly volunteer to fight themselves. On top of it, they had to contend with an independent media that was a loose cannon freely patrolling the battlefields, reporting on the many atrocities committed by American troops which was turning mom and pop America against the war.
This came to a head with the Ma' » ¹ Lai massacre of March 16, 1968 when American troops slaughtered 504 unarmed civilians in the once peaceful South Vietnamese village. Yes, those "brave" American troops murdered most the population in the very country they were supposed to be defending.
Americans watched this atrocity play out in horror from their living rooms.
