Rob Kall: And when you disclose, you've described in your book how you use it as kind of bait to get the other person to disclose a lot more.
M.E. Thomas: Exactly, right. So sociopaths I think are difficult to find, because they're not really sharing things. But that is actually a characteristic of sociopaths. If there, if there's somebody who is constantly shifting the conversation back to you, and never wants, seems to want to talk about themselves, that would be indicative of a sociopath.
When I think of politicians, you know, it's I think very rare for a sociopath to have a very prominent in the spotlight role. So a lot of people think President Bush, right, was a sociopath, George W. was a sociopath, and I think not likely. He probably, you know, maybe he had whatever other issues, and some people guess. I just can't imagine somebody would want to be right there. Dick Cheney, though, you know maybe something like that. If Dick Cheney himself is not a sociopath, that sort of role, the role that he fulfilled, of being very powerful, and not really being in the public eye as often. You know he wasn't there giving stumping speeches, he was in the back rooms being a power broker, right? That seems like it would appeal much more to a sociopath.
Rob Kall: How bout Carl Rove?
M.E. Thomas: *chuckles* Carl Rove, you know, yeah another good example. Somebody who, you know particularly I think elected officials, I think sociopaths can be pretty good at, you know charming people winning people over. But I do think it's sort of true that at least a, a percentage of the population recognizes something a little bit off about a sociopath. There's something about a sociopath that just seems not quite, you know, one of these things is not like the other type situation. This person is not like us. *chuckles*
So, so elected positions are okay, but I think better even still are appointed positions in the government if you're going to talk about politics. Or somebody like, you know Dick Cheney, who, he was elected, but really it was President Bush who was elected.
Rob Kall: So you're saying, that the sociopaths are more likely to be the ones who get appointed, like maybe to agencies or by boards as CEO's.
M.E. Thomas: Right. Yeah.
