I'll frame it this way:
What if Hillary takes office and takes the position of President and all the abuses and damages done to the Constitution and our system of checks and balances have been allowed and we have failed to impeach Cheney and Bush? What if we fail to show that the next presidents will not be allowed to do what Bush has done (or the next vice presidents for that matter)? What if we fail to send message that leaders cannot grab power at free will?
I mean, we've seen money pour into Hillary's campaign from defense contractors. We've seen the power lobbyists and corporations have over her. We must assume the money will dictate what she will do in office in the same way the money dictated what Bush did these past seven years.
Will we hear Edwards say if only I had known then what I know now? Are we going to hear from Obama that he supported impeachment but just disagreed with the terms with which they were introduced in Congress?
What will either of them do?
There's no question that impeaching Bush and Cheney would make our political system, our constitutional framework, and our country stronger, freer, and more secure.
Precedent should be established that what Bush and Cheney have done is fundamentally unacceptable. I definitely support Kucinich's impeachment articles against Cheney.
It's not a litmus test issue for me; I can support someone running for president who doesn't support impeachment, but I have no problem saying that they are wrong to oppose impeachment.
We should impeach Bush, even if we wait to do so until after the November election -- just for the historical record.
Thanks for the dialogue. I do not find it in anyone's interest to attack each other so I am glad you are willing to talk about this.
I think the Democratic Party (Obama/Edwards) is making a mistake not challenging Bush and Cheney with impeachment as they run for the presidency.
The Democratic Party in '87 under the same conditions now chose not to impeach Reagan. I know this cause it was brought up in a forum Kucinich had with John Nichols from The Nation magazine. And, what happened after '87? Bush Sr. won.
We are still paying for not impeaching Reagan for Iran-Contra.
