Take a stroll down memory lane and remember when the ball was in the liberals’ and progressives’ court. That ball was in the liberals’ and progressive’s court multiple times: when the people were awakening to the crimes of the Bush administration, when people were rejecting the war and voting overwhelmingly for Democrats in 2006, and when the so-called Obama generation and others were bringing a groundswell of support to Barack Obama.

Many suggested that Americans seeking to dwell on the past not worry because the sands of time meant that the Bush administration’s days were numbered. Others suggested that a bird in the hand was worth two in the bush and went about convincing people to vote for the electable candidate.

I’m no doubting Thomas, but at the drop of a hat it seems like we have now bitten off more than we Americans can chew. Barack Obama has proven recently to be a flash in the pan compared to other candidates who could have prevented us from going up a blind alley.

I don’t think Americans fully knew what they were getting into when they subscribed to what was being billed as a new era of hope and change. Nobody knew this idea would end up meaning politics would go to hell and a handbasket.

But, Sarah Palin queered the pitch and that appears to have been the intention. Since the pitch has been queered, Barack Obama has had no room to swing the cat. There’s only room to swing a turtle or a toad and nobody could ever be satisfied by that.

The corporate media lapdogs are salivating at the bone that the McCain campaign has thrown their way. Each network wants a piece of the flesh hanging off of it.

As Joe Scarborough said to Chris Matthews this week, the media will talk about “whatever the McCain campaign wants us to talk about, because the McCain campaign is assertive.” The McCain campaign’s assertiveness is a result of being clearly defined from the start.

McCain and Palin are now giving Barack Obama and Joe Biden a taste of their own medicine and molding themselves into “maverick reformers” who could take on the community organizing proficiencies of Barack Obama any day and especially when it came time to answer that 3 a.m. phone call.

So, Barack Obama went to the Saddleback forum and has continuously pledged his love for God and this country throughout this campaign. With Palin in the game now, those pledges go down like a lead balloon.

Obama now must find a way around a charade that has played out before the American people’s eyes. The Lifetime-HBO-E! True Hollywood co*k and bull story titled, “A Tale of Two Mavericks,” is getting Nielsen ratings that few television programs achieve.

Sleeping dogs can be allowed to lie but putting a sock in it will not get him anywhere. The media is content with this feeding frenzy and will make this go down to the wire.

Obama must now confront the realities of his campaign and stop putting the cart before the horse. The horse must be in front of the cart if it is to go anywhere.

Now a sitting duck, Barack Obama must throw a monkey wrench in the work of the McCain-Palin media propaganda campaign.

Barack Obama is losing the “ad war” and the chickens have now come home to roost. All the muddying of the issues with talk of hope and change has the progressive base disenthralled and unsure of what will happen with Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, the rule of law, health care, national debt, this nation’s energy policy, and the economy (whose future depends on what happens with the “war on terror”).
