After the attack many supporters expressed feelings of betrayal. Ken Langone, billionaire Republican donor and Home Depot co-founder, said:
He feels "betrayed" by President Donald Trump after the attempt to overturn the election...
"Last Wednesday was a disgrace and should never have happened in this country and if it doesn't break every American's heart, something is wrong," Langone said, referring to the Capitol siege. "It breaks my heart, for sure. I didn't sign up for that." [vii]
All along, Trump lied and used his supporter's passion to exploit them for his own personal gain. Post-election, he has raised over 250 million dollars, which can be spent on anything. [viii] Forbes reported that he has shifted 2.8 million dollars into his private business bank account. [ix]
The Cambridge English Dictionary says "cannon fodder" describes: "Soldiers who are not considered important by their officers and are sent into war without their leaders worrying if they die."
Historically, it is a derogatory term. Frenchman, Francois-Rene de Chateaubriand, first used it in an 1814 pamphlet criticizing Napoleon's cruelty to soldiers. He wrote: "the contempt for the lives of men....has come to the point of calling the conscripts 'raw material' and 'cannon fodder'." [x]
Trump's actions reveal his contempt. Followers expected his support and got none. They expected no legal violation and are being prosecuted. They expected to be treated as heroes and patriots. It hasn't happened. It was all a lie.
Save the Victims
The United States Senate should vote for impeachment.
For this to happen many of the Republican Senators Trump supporters elected will have to vote to impeach. They should do so. Why: To act in the best interests of their constituents. Their constituents believe in policy and a program. They supported Trump to advance this program. They did not support him to be victimized by him. But that is what happened, and it will continue to happen. Trump does not actually believe in Trumpism. He just preaches the rhetoric to obtain political power. A true leader empowers his followers. He does not sacrifice them for personal gain.
Our Senators know this to be true. They should all remember the saying: TRUTH WILL OUT. Those who have been persecuted and victimized will eventually understand the truth of what happened to them. And when that day comes they will look to the members of the Senate and ask: Why did you not protect us?
If you truly care for those whom you represent, vote to save them.
