"O Nobly Born, O you of glorious origins, remember your radiant true nature, the essence of mind. Trust it. Return to it. It is home."

Tom Yeomans, who had studied with Roberto Assagioli, founder of Psychosynthesis, states:

"Of the various names for this dimension within the human being, the one I have found most useful is 'the Soul.'

Others like 'Self,' 'Higher Self,' 'True Nature,' 'Essence,' or 'Pure Being' are also useful, but I have found that 'Soul' is particularly evocative in working with clients, for it suggests depth and meaning, and it is still common parlance. It is for this reason that I use it from among the various possibilities. And I use it with a lower case 's' to indicate that this word describes an ordinary and very human experience, which, though it has exalted and mysterious aspects, is, in essence, daily.

"What I mean by 'soul' is that source of power, love, truth, and meaning within us through which we are capable of both being fully ourselves and being in harmonious and right relationship with all other beings.

"It is the central organizing principle of a human life and holds our capacity to synthesize the many differences within and around us into one lived reality that is both unique and universal, that expresses our gift to the world, and which enables us to both give and receive love."

**

Carolyn Baker:

"My intention, which I do not always fulfill, is to hold the vision of - when interacting with others -'the sacred in me salutes the sacred in you.'

"This means that I am neither superior or inferior to anyone. It means that I strive to be truthful and authentic with other living beings and that I defend their right to exist and live freely and without suffering... I want to recognize the dignity inherent in both humans and animals. I must measure what is 'beneath my dignity,' not as what is beneath my ego, but what is beneath the sacred Self that is my core."

Nobility of Soul

Today it is all too easy to lose hope, to see the evil in humankind, and to dwell on pessimism about out future. This is not surprising, what with the Corona virus, the 6th mass extinction of our animal brethren, the indifference and/or corruption of political leaders, escalating climate change and the ever-present threat of a nuclear exchange. Add to this the thousands-year heritage of monotheistic religions' insistence on the dogma of "original sin," which has been profoundly distorted and leaves no room for the image of "original blessing."
