Rob: Where do they fit into this picture?
BB: Well, in complicated ways because what I don't want is, one size doesn't fit all here. The only, where they would fit into the picture is, yes they are living in alternate realities, why are they? I would have to know on an individual basis and each case, what it was that went into the creation of that alternate reality. What purpose does it serve? What was the situation in which it developed to decide, well actually they simply have mental illness, is in fact not understanding any of them.
Rob: Isn't that a shortcut to you so, the term mental health, do you have a word that you use that you're comfortable with?
BB: It actually is not a short cut.
Rob: Okay fair enough, but do you have a word that you use to describe people who--
BB: Problems in living.
Rob: Problems in living. Okay. So I mean, I'm struggling with this because when I had those jobs I thought I was doing some good work. I was helping people. But I also worked at an inpatient unit and I was, at the time, a psychiatric technician, and I would literally, when somebody was brought in who was depressed and in an almost vegetative state where they were just sitting or laying and not moving and not interacting with people, they would be given electro shock therapy.
BB: Yeah.
