6:20 PM PT: For the record, I am deeply thankful for the actions of the police and Federal officials from the second the bombs exploded until the moment they took Dzhokhar Tsarnaev into custody. The residents of Watertown MA have flooded the streets to applaud and thank the police officers for the extremely thorough job they've done in capturing these two terrorists.
The title of the diary refers to one posted a few hours ago saying that the police and National Guard locking down the Boston area was an example of the new "police state." Ridiculous. There were two men with bombs and assault weapons running around residential areas blowing things up and shooting hundreds of rounds of ammunition on neighborhood streets. Officials didn't shut down a city on a whim, they did it because two men were engaged in combat with explosives and firearms. Police spent the day today trying to disarm explosive devices left by these men. If there were people out and about, they could have been injured.
Thank you police, FBI, National Guard, and other officials who worked to bring this to an end. It's over.
