Jacqueline Woodson published an article 'The Pain of the Watermelon Joke' in The NY Times, OpEd. Nov.29. 2014. It deals with the painful stereotyping of the black people in the US, the watermelon jokes being one of many. I hereby would like to muse on that topic and extend on it a little bit.

People would read such an article, admire my style and prowess; then they would forget it. People like to forget. In the case of drone strikes controlled by the CIA, the structure of decision-making leads inexorably to death. Soulless secret agencies are the product of fear. We must stop being afraid, so that such agencies can eventually go out of business.
