In a sudden, totally unexpected announcement, indicating that a further review of Hillary Clinton's emails would be made, FBI director James Comey has just inserted himself into the middle of this presidential election and thrown it into a state of turmoil.

The process by which we elect an American president is under siege. First there was the hacking of DNC computer records by the Russians or some other entity. Then WikiLeaks and Julian Assange decided to release thousands of emails supposedly connected in some way to Hillary Clinton.

Next we had Trump claiming that this election is rigged, the polls are rigged, and there is rampant voter fraud in the system, all of which he says are a part of the scheme by which Clinton and the Democrats intend to steal the election. And to top it off, when it looks like Trump is going down for the count, the Director of the FBI says that he has new information about the emails; even though he admits he hasn't even seen the supposed new evidence and it may not even be significant.

Is this some kind of witch hunt or is it a hatchet job or what?

Right off let me make it clear that this discussion won't be about defending Clinton or determining whether she broke any law when she used her personal server in conducting official government business. The issue here revolves around the fact that this government official, when this election is just over a week away, has taken an action that is entirely inappropriate, without precedent, and against the stated policies of the Justice Department.

If it is determined, at some point, that Clinton is guilty of breaking some law then she should be indicated by the Justice Department. But what we don't need in this country is to have our election process contaminated by government intervention.

This is either a case of extremely bad judgment and incompetence on his part or it could be interpreted as an act of collusion taken to directly affect the outcome of the election. The question is, has Comey been compromised in some way that would cause him to act so irresponsibly?

Whether it's Clinton or any other future candidate this kind of governmental intervention into an election has no place in this democracy and our system of justice. This is just one more example of an arm of the Establishment that is obsessed with maintaining control over this country and its people. It can be described as governmental abuse of the highest order.

Director Comey has decided enter into this process and reopen the investigation even though he, himself, admitted that he hasn't reviewed any of these newly obtained emails. When in American election history have we ever seen an election so very bizarre; will it even get worse in these last few days?

It was interesting to listen to Trump's diatribe right after he heard the announcement. It almost seems as if he knew that this was coming and was ready to use it as a last ditch effort to salvage his chances to win. Collusion, anyone?

A further question would be: what exactly prompted the director to decide to do initiate this action when he would have to have known that it would, without question, ignite a firestorm?

Let's discuss how a typical prosecutor determines whether an individual who is under investigation and possible indictment for supposedly committing a crime should be tried in a court of law or not.

When the police decide to pursue an indictment the case is referred to an appropriate department, often a district attorney's office and, thereafter, a prosecutor looks at all the evidence provided and then decides if the case has merit.

Can you imagine a prosecutor, in the process of deciding whether to go forward with an indictment, announcing that it may be forthcoming but then also stating that, just as Comey did, that the prosecutor's office didn't yet know the significance of the new evidence"?

And then we also hear the Wall Street Journal reporting, "The FBI hadn't determined whether emails in the new trove were duplicates of the thousands of emails already reviewed by investigators. What is going on here?
