There is little doubt social unrest is roiling this country. Whether from the left or the right it seems ready to explode.
It is the perfect scenario the ruling elite want. It keeps the focus away from them. The unrest serves to distract the majority of people from realizing it's the ruling elite that needs to be their focus and be dislodged from power. Not the issues of the right and left that pit them against each other.
The main problem is there are no trusted spokespersons that can articulate to the majority its the ruling elite that must be taken on. The ruling elite? Well they're the political leaders in Congress, also the unelected heads of the corporate MSM, heads of big corporations, silicon valley moguls, heads of big banks, billionaires, special interest groups, admirals, generals, former members of Congress now lobbyists on the payroll of the defense industry et.al all in league, not some formal conspiracy cabal, just like minded men, women endorsing the status quo. The focus needs to be on them. They prevent the real issues and problems of the people from being dealt with, much less discussed or put on the agenda so they could start being rectified.
The white working class should be natural allies with working class blacks and browns because they're all suffering from the same loss of jobs as their middle class incomes were outsourced and sent to 3rd world countries. This was done intentionally by the corporate heads to pad their incomes. The Congress went along supported the corporate moves as the latter underwrote the campaigns of those politicos.
Instead they're rivals. There are legitimate protests against racist white cops murdering innocent blacks. Meanwhile gun toting conservative whites protest against the excesses of the Black Lives Matter protests. There is no dialogue between them. There is no means of mediation.
With a presidential election less than two weeks away neither side seems willing to concede the result. It's Trump supporters against anybody but Trump in the form of Joe Biden.
What then civil disorder? Another SCOTUS decision as happened in 2000?
The last time the country was so divided brought about southern states seceding from the union then civil war. Is that our fate?
Then there's COVID complicating "things". A Supreme Court nominee Amy Conan Barrett openly rejected by Dems yet likely to be approved by a majority Repub Senate. A further Congressional impasse between Dems and Repubs over soaring unemployment, awarding another monetary supplement to individuals and families, the cascading effect of evictions and bankruptcies, an economy devastated by the shutdowns.
I don't want to be scrooge the bearer of bad tidings but if there's a silver lining to all this...a cleansing of sorts that can come about without a severe dislocation in the public square then what is it?
One thing is for sure, humankind has survived every virus since time immemorial. Otherwise we wouldn't be around talking about the current one. We'll survive this one as well. The rest...I wouldn't bet the house on.
