Our country is stagnant and our problems are worsening. Both major parties are thoroughly, irremediably corrupted by special interest money. They can not do without enormous sums of it. They will try to block every attempt by electoral processes to seriously reduce the corrupting influence of big money. According to "Voters leaving Republican, Democratic parties in droves, (USA Today, 12/22/11) more than 2.5 million voters have left the Democratic and Republican parties since the 2008 elections, while the number of independent voters continues to grow. Thus, we Americans need to create, at least a temporary alternative, an American Anti-Corruption Campaign (AACC.) It should run mere volunteers, by low cost write-in, for Senate and House seats, the Presidency and state legislatures. This AACC's initial goals would be restricted to promoting de-registration from the Republican and Democratic parties and demonstrable boycott of them. (Still a "safe" action, at least for the moment.) If elected to office, AACC's candidates' first goal would be legislating enough support for investigation and strong prosecution of every probable violation of current campaign laws to the point of actually jailing those found guilty. A second goal would be to strengthen these anti-corruption laws of "Separation of Money and State."

No further broad issues should be advocated by volunteers (as a party plank) or debated into a "platform" for a whole party. On other issues candidates should advocate only truthfully, with civility, not pandering, as ones' personal opinion. Anti-corruption all by itself is hard, and if successful, even dangerous work! Look at what happens to prosecutors and police chiefs when they cut the profits of drug cartels. Money is the most addictive drug for major party candidates. Their corruptors will try anything to eliminate anti-corruption competitors. No further divisive ideological test should be applied for candidates to run as volunteer adherents to the AACC goals. It will be surprising that people who agree on this one issue of anti-corruption, from Libertarian all the way to progressive, will find, once in office with anti-corruption primarily at heart, how much they agree upon other state-wide, national and international issues for the people as a whole.

For a first run, only candidates having less than $1 million in gross assets should be allowed to be candidates, testified to on one's honor. Candidates can expend only their own money out of their assets and money contributed to the national campaign. A volunteer committee of lawyers can set up a blind trust for contributions from public spirited individuals and groups. Contributions may only be designated for the volunteer candidate from one's primary residence for state offices or one's state of residence. The trust will, by a date certain, for starters, make exactly equal distributions to volunteer candidates for offices of equal voting power, e.g., state districts or states. Another committee of volunteer forensic accountants can audit campaign revenue and expenditures.

Candidates should be willing to serve, if elected, for at least one year, if not full term. This is to allow geezers like me (74) to volunteer. Candidates must not know from whom any money to run their campaigns came. All a candidate needs to do is announce his or her sincere availability to fill the office, if written in by enough people to win.

Corruption is our true regime. This campaign is for real regime change.

I could be Bernie Sanders older brother by similarity. I was born in Manhattan, 1940, he, about a year later, in Brooklyn. I too am a white male American. A retired college professor of philosophy. We both were born of Jewish parents. I was (more...)
