Just look at MoveOn. It lost all credibility when it endorsed Obama. Now, it can’t do anything because Obama isn’t at risk if he doesn’t support MoveOn’s agenda. MoveOn endorsed him, and so he can go off and court some right wingers so that he might “win” the election.
In conclusion, we are in a turbulent time where the people who are standing up for the people are confused and bewildered and their good hearts and minds are seemingly getting them nowhere. On the other hand, we have progressive writers giving us reason to stand up and fight, but we aren’t to stand up and fight too much.
Don’t go so far as to reject the two parties fully. They aren’t the same. They may ultimately bow down to corporations, the military, and special interest groups eventually no matter what, but clearly, they differ on some domestic issues like wedge issues which never lead to policy changes in between elections.
Don’t go so far as to suggest people vote third party. Don’t vote people who have been tirelessly working to defend the people. And why not?
The answer is something akin to, “Well, we finally get a chance to elect a black man. Let’s not waste this opportunity.” How superficial is that?
Imagination, creativity, questioning of social and political norms is being purged from politics. Lack thereof will surely lead to the end of America.
