Joey's one of my all time favorite fictional characters. I believe this is a book that will appeal to all ages, male and female. I loved the descriptions of Long Island, before it was all paved over... "A Decade of Paving the Earth," so funny but sad. :-) From the first chapter of "A Summer with Freeman," I was impressed with the writing quality and story telling ability. I'd call this a "slam dunk." I was laughing by the 4th paragraph. I was also amazed that I was actually identifying with some of the sentiments expressed by Joey, an adolescent boy! Here I am, a woman, decades older, and I could so easily put myself into Joey's world and find a part of myself in him. Good writing indeed! I ordered a hard copy for the sheer pleasure of settling down and holding a good book in my hands. Mr. Geery, keep on writing! I'm looking forward to your next novel!

My oldest brother Dan has always been my most amusing brother. A Summer With Freeman is a most amusing book. Dan is a master of embarrassing situations and the cringe factor of his writing is unsurpassed. I found myself flipping through the pages squirming with anticipation to see what "Joey" would do next as he is trying to figure out all the mysteries of adolescence. Dan tells a good tale and tells it well. Lots of angst and action, outrageously realistic characters and a most satisfying climax. I think even Twain and Bryson would laugh out loud.
