It is you, Joe, who have been consistently just as wrong on these issues as Bush and Cheney have been. And yet, you continue your war mongering, just as they do, even against new foes.
Two weeks after Georgia picked the night of the opening ceremonies of the Olympics to invade South Ossetia, and just one day after several news sources announced that Cheney’s point man was there when the decision was made to invade, Joe Biden makes the following statement:
“In recent days, we’ve once again seen the consequences of this neglect with Russia’s challenge to the free and democratic country of Georgia.Barack Obama and I will end this neglect. We will hold Russia accountable for its actions, and we’ll help the people of Georgia rebuild.” Biden
It is common knowledge that Russia did not instigate this standoff. In fact, Georgia lobed bombs into South Ossetia’s cities killing civilian populations as well as Russian Peace-Keepers. This is fact.
And yet, we hear, at the Democratic Convention, Joe Biden parroting the Fox News/McCain/Bush talking points for continued aggression in the area based on their lies about what took place.
We should be surprised that he had the audacity to say this at the convention in front of millions of liberals and progressives, but we can’t be surprised that he is, once again, towing the war-party’s line. He’s been doing it all along.
Perhaps even more disturbing than all of this, for us here at home anyway, Joe offered this little tidbit…
“Barack Obama will put more cops on the streets…”
Now you can’t go a day without seeing an incident of Police brutality in this country. Hell, just the day before a young woman from Code Pink got slammed to the ground and then arrested for doing nothing more than videoing another arrest.
The FBI just recently put out the request to decrease the restrictions on surveillance methods, actually looking to be able to investigate people when they have no reason to at all. The police state mentality is out of control right now. 9/11 provided an influx of Homeland Security money to every single police force in the nation, regardless of their potential as targets.
And yet, Biden want’s more police on the streets? Maybe he want’s more checkpoints like those that exist in Palestine and Iraq and Washington DC. Maybe he thinks that the police, that are already rigged out like the US soldiers kicking in doors in Iraq, need more equipment like Armored Personel Carriers and fully automatic weapons, in order to deal with kids taking a hit of extacy at a rave. Who knows.
But I tell you this, it’s NOT part of the “progressive” agenda that I signed up for.
None of this is.
Now, you guys keep reading all the glowing reviews of the primary speeches to date. You get together and have your parties and watch Obama give his historic speech. And I am sure it will be a good one.
But for all of you out there, like me, who know this is simply the new window dressing sales campaign for a continuation of Bush/Cheney policies by the DNC, I wish I could offer you a more hopeful critique of the past few days. I wish that I could say to you that our Party hadn’t sold us out a long time ago.
I wish I could say that I thought these changes of direction were just temporary efforts to gain some political middle ground during the election. But I can’t because they are not. These policy choices that stand in direct contrast to what true liberals believe are far to substantive to be anything but a real and permanent shift in the ideology of the DNC.
