Emptiness of mind (i.e., being deconditioned) is the path to wholeness. Whole, holy and hole are one word. Emptiness experienced in meditation is fullness. If your a science whip, you can observe this state if you are able to get there.
What we have as religion is NOT religion. It is an institutionalized philosophy or theology that separates us into idealistic categories.
In today's world, we are caught up in isms. "Isms" are philosophical ways of looking at the world. In this case, atheism is as much theism as right winged Christianity is and is as dogmatic. In fact, I've had more open conversation with born again Christians than I have had with dogmatic "atheists."
Atheism in its truest sense is simply a stand against theism. Thus, Buddhism is the most truly atheistic of religions in that it often entices people to move beyond their thoughts while achieving a deconditioned state of thoughtlessness. If you even tap into this for a second and experience it, it will be a profound experience for you. There is no way I can describe it. The minute you do try to describe it, the fact is, it becomes an ism and ultimately is not true to its own name.
As Goethe put it: "of what use Gabriel your message to Marie unless you give that same message to me." Now (1) this was a guy and (2) he is going to give birth to God? Is he a nut?
No, what that mystic was saying was that the Virgin Marie (Ocean or Undifferentiated Psyche or Soul) is a state of the Soul in which She is beyond conditioning. Indeed, I equate Her to Bohm's Unmfanifest.
If you ever were to have such an experience, you would cease to observe boundaries between this and that and you. The diversity of all things would be revealed as a unity and the unity embraces all. Unity IS diversity. This is exactly what the Buddhists are moving towards via annihilation of the conditioned Self via meditation.
Buddhists are true atheists. "Give it up," says Lao Tzu, author of the Tao Te Ching, "Be newborn, be free of yourself." This is true atheism. "Be like that infant," Jesus Christ says. Yes, he is on track! Get beyond your conditioning and instead focus on being deconditioned. What infant emerges from the womb and cries, "here I am! A Christian right winger!"
