MAB: Kate, I understand that you've gotten lots of feedback from this post, would you care to share a couple of comments with us?

KRR: I have been overwhelmed by the response. I have received nearly a thousand messages and my friend requests are always full. One person actually called my parents and left a voicemail.

Out of all of these messages and contacts only one was truly hateful. ONE.

The messages that have been the most unexpected were from the black community who feel that my observations validated their experience.

"Your post touched me I have tears in my eyes u articulated it very well where everyone can understand what we go through it is a difference and I really appreciate ur post thank you so much"

"...I would honestly like to take the time to thank you from the bottom of my heart for expressing your thoughts in such an eloquent way. I can tell by the passion in your post that you are a very devoted mother who loves all of your kids equally. As a person of color I appreciate you taking the time to see the world through my eyes. A lot of people don't bother to do so, yet they have strong opinions about how people of color should act, behave, or respond when mistreated. Reading your post put a smile on my face & in my heart & I also chose to share it. Thank you again & I hope you have a beautiful day"

The ones that humble me are like the following messages:

"Your story about you (sic) children has really touched me. I am seeing the world so differently than I ever have before! Thank You for sharing it."

"I am so sorry that there isn't equality...I keep hoping there is in my Pollyanna eyes and actions...but you made me think...there is something closing my eyes because this still can't be going on!!! WTF you look like a wonderfully happy family...keep them united and safe."

But the ones I cherish are from other moms who send me blessings and thanks and so much hope that we can make the world better for our children.

MAB: Well, as one mom to another, I thank you so much for visiting with us, Kate, and sharing your story. Moms have an inestimable role in building a better world for everyone. Privilege, especially White Privilege, does not come without responsibility. The playing field needs to be leveled, and people on both ends of it need to be shovelling.

KRR: Thanks for interviewing me. I am truly humbled that my story has touched so many. If I am able to provide a way to bring greater communication and understanding then I am honored to do my part.
