Musing along the foreshore

copper bangles, twee zinc beads

a safe distance from the sea

self-isolated in a conch-like roar

that promises more than it can ever deliver:

the rolling white noise of the thing-in-itself
.

I came across a colony of horseshoes

crabby little aristocrats, blueblooded angels

from the wayback Start of Days

mucking in the white beach mud

I crouched down in the spawn spa

and scooped up beads of blue roe

imagining them, gulls luffing, spread

across ritz carlton crackers at home
.
