At the end of the fuse is a nuclear bomb. It is insane to poke the sleeping Russian Bear. The main stream media runs daily anti-Putin fake news no matter how trivial. Today's breaking Guardian story, "Krispy Kreme-lin: Trump and Schumer trade tweets over Putin doughnut photo"---no reader comments allowed, as usual now for the Guardian.
Who will speak truth to the American people if it were not for Julian Assange, Chelsea Manning, Edward Snowden and others brave enough to expose treason (i.e. violating their oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States of America), other criminal activity, corruption, fraud, war crimes and crimes against humanity? Who will risk their freedom, and life in the future to expose truth to the American people? Whistle blowers deserve our highest respect, honor and full support. They are our friends.
Why is it necessary for me to rehash the ugly recent past now?---because Americans have amnesia and need constant remembering. Gore Vidal (R.I.P.) even made a documentary "The United States of Amnesia" (trailer). In order to understand the present we need to know the past. In order to change the future we need to understand the present.
George Orwell famously said it best in his book Nineteen Eighty-Four: "Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past." We must know history, not forget the past and try to learn from it. Here is another famous quote: "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."---George Santayana.
The main stream media controls the present, because the public has chronic amnesia. They fall for the same main stream media lies over and over again---"weapons of mass destruction, right-to-protect, no fly zone, nuclear program, terrorist threat, another Hitler, etc. Some of us who did not learn from the past have gotten into bed with some strange bedfellows: the main stream media, the Central Intelligence (sic) Agency and the National Security (sic) Agency, John "McCrazy" McCain, neocons, fascists, warmongers and regime change con-artist.
On the other extreme, some of us have been attracted to the chum of buzzwords that Trump has been ladling out: make America great again, build infrastructure, better relations with Russia, declaring NATO obsolete, killing neoliberal trade deals, winding down the wars in the Middle East, a balanced policy towards Palestine, and other ground up bait and switch. At the end of Trump's chum slick will be a big hook waiting to pull in the fish, just as Trump does with his casinos that rob old people of their Social Security checks with his slick con that they can hit the jackpot.
Trump is a con artist. He is a maniac. He is the worst president in US history. We should all hate what Trump stands for: Islamophobia, xenophobia, torture, collective punishment, building walls, bashing Mexicans, mass deportation, increasing the military budget, privatization of infrastructure, and nationalism on steroids. Trump's nationalism is raw fascism. Trump's narcissistic personality basks in the codependent spotlight of his cheering fascists. Without each other they are both impotent.
We need to remember our own agenda. We have already been told that we will not get progressive reform from the Democratic Party. We are certainly not going to get our agenda from Trump, George Soros, Moveon.org, the Club for Growth Action, Sheldon Adelson, billionaire Robert Mercer and his daughter Rebecca, and the main stream media. They are our enemies that want to lead us down the yellow brick road. At the end of that road is a fascist mob waiting to return to endless wars, austerity, globalization, trade deals, privatization, fracking, climate change, wealth inequality, deteriorating government safety nets, and eventually worldwide disaster.
We need to use our voice! Bernie used to be a socialist voice for college education for all, a living wage, healthcare as a human right, and to get the money out of politics. Bernie was a voice against income inequality, climate change, pipelines, pollution, and the militarization of the police. The Bernie revolution was over before it even started. Now is the time for us to use our feet and go to the street so they can hear our voices.
Trump will fall. And when he does we need leaders who will take the reins to cut the military budget, close foreign bases and end the pursuit of empire. We need leaders who will respect international law and obey treaties. Above all the world needs a stop to the slaughter of millions of people and the destruction of prosperous civilizations. War criminals need to be held accountable for their crimes against humanity. That is the only way to stop them.
We are gambling with the survival of the planet. It will soon be too late: the Doomsday Clock has already advanced to 2 1/2 minutes until Midnight. If nuclear destruction does not get us first, then climate change will.
Economic freedom is the socialist agenda that Bernie talked about to standing room only crowds. He spoke of government action for anti-poverty programs, regulating Wall Street, and fair taxes on the wealthy. Bernie made it respectable again to be a socalist. Poll after poll showed that the majority of Americans like socialists programs. We need a socialist economic revolution, an anti-war revolution, and a revolution to restore the Bill of Rights (see addendum below).
We know what we want. What we need is organization and leadership. Where are those organizers, leaders and loyal followers? Will progressive leaders please step forward? And will we support them and not abandon them when they do? The time is short and running out quickly.
