That's how it goes with the US. Iraq's Saddam Hussein was a US ally when he invaded and fought against Iran in the 1980's. We even gave him the chemical weapons he used in that war.
The bottom line is the US needs "enemies". Some foe, real or contrived to justify the almost $trillion dollar expenditures each year to the Pentagon's "defense" war industry. But I digress.
Getting back to the Taliban regaining control of the country. The sense here is they realize the country has been decimated with the US occupation. Huge expenditures in infrastructure are necessary and China has been negotiating with Taliban leaders to provide and help rebuild the country provided there be stability in the country. In particular no terrorists infiltrating from Afghanistan into the Uyghur areas of neighboring China. Russia has helped secure the borders of Afghanistan's neighbors mentioned above. Supposedly the Islamist Sunni Taliban has been talking with neighboring Shiite Iran.
Finally we in the west shouldn't be over reacting on human rights, women's rights et al in Afghanistan under a Taliban I believe know the country can't be isolated from the rest of the world as it was governing in the late 1990's. The world has changed significantly since then.
Let's give them time and see how things evolve.
