According to the Mayo Clinic, "Dairy foods are a good source of tryptophan, an amino acid that your body converts to melatonin and serotonin — both of which are thought to induce sleep." If milk is not your thing, other foods can help induce sleep such as, yogurt with granola sprinkled on top or a sliced apple with 1 ounce of cheese.

Now we come to sleep, while the golden-rule has for the most part been eight-hours a night, some can do with less, but try and aim for at least six-hours of sleep.  Before settling down, again, do not watch the news, but aim for watching a favorite show on TV or picking up a book to read in bed.  If you have enough time before bed, take a hot bath or shower to help relax you.

If these dire times are getting to you, it is okay to cry since crying releases pent-up emotions.  It is okay to vent your feelings with another person preferably a trained professional.  If you cannot afford one, even members of your clergy are there to help you deal with this crisis.  You may not be religious, but these clergy members are there to listen.  Even if they cannot give you concrete advise, just venting and connecting with another person who is actually listening to your concerns is taking a positive step forward.

With Thanksgiving Day just two days away and with some food pantries finding themselves bare, see what you have within your home and take time to donate it to them.  Many supermarkets such as my local Waldbaums have put together brown-bags and contained within them are all the ingredients a needy family will need to cook up their own feast of Thanksgiving. Again, another positive step one can take in dealing with this economic crisis.  At times getting out of one’s self only goes to help one’s self.

Lastly, to all of my readers, I want to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving.
