Is John McCain's quest for the presidency effectively over?
One can almost see that he has abdicated this race when he answered a supporter who clearly stated that he was scared of Senator Obama and McCain stated, "He is a person you do not have to be scared of as president of the United States." One must wonder if in that moment in time he somehow realized that his campaign was effectively over.

Our safety demands that volcanoes and fault lines be monitored
It is cost affective for we as Americans to have both volcanoes and fault lines monitored on a 24/7 basis. That is what Governor Bobby Jindal just did not understand and this surprises me since one of the largest hurricanes, Katrina hit the shores of Louisiana.
Newsday chooses Palin over Protesters in Print Edition
Let me get this straight: A presidential wannabe who quit being governor is given prime print real estate and a hot news story is placed deep within the print edition? It is time for the media to get over Sarah Palin
Due to failing economy: Child abuse cases on the rise and murder
How many more children will die due to this ailing economy? Those who refuse in Washington, must answer to these children, but those who have died can no longer hear them. Those who promoted deregulation and this unbridled free-market system are partly responsible for their deaths. There in lies the real criminality.
Help Haiti's earthquake survivors by donating to the Red Cross
As the day light breaks in the morning, we do not know how many died in this quake or how many more will be recorded in the days and weeks after. This is where we as Americans can come to their aid by digging into our pockets, coin-jars, wallets, or what have you and help the people of Haiti by donating to the Red Cross.

Union Shops and Non Union Shops
In solidarity with the thousands of protesters in Wisconsin and those taking to the picket lines across this country, let us honor their heroism by shopping ONLY in union shops.
Protester who interrupted McCain's speech is an Iraq War Veteran
Little did they know or John McCain know that this protester actually served over in Iraq and according to Iraq Veterans Against the War, his name is, Adam Kokesh who is an IVAW board member. He held up a sign stating, "McCain Votes Against Vets." Surge nothing, this patriotic American actually put on the uniform, served his country deserved some respect coming from McCain and those Republicans gathered at the convention.
In attacking Shawn Hornbeck, Bill O'Reilly gave power to the pedophiles
In ten years time, I have cited chapter and verse how little Megan's Law does in protecting our children and never once did I use Bill O'Reilly as a credible source of information and in the advent of the Shawn Hornbeck case, neither should you. Bill O'Reilly left our children behind by leaving Shawn Hornbeck behind.

Nelson Mandela chose to forgive: Why can't we forgive Don Imus?
I will leave you with this quote coming from Nelson Mandela who stated upon leaving office, "South Africans must recall the terrible past so that we can deal with it, forgiving where forgiveness is necessary but never forgetting" Let us remember how many years he was locked away in a South African prison during its most heinous time called Apartheid.

If Gov. Rod Blagojevich deserves impeachment, so did Pres. Bush
If some are calling for Blagojevich's impeachment, it was both Bush and Cheney who truly deserved it. If some feel that Blagojevich should go to prison if convicted, it is none-other than Bush and Cheney who deserve to be tried at The Hague and convicted for war crimes against humanity.
Can the 'hockey mommn", Sarah Palin find Osama bin Laden?
Cindy McCain, called Sarah Palin a "hockey-mommin' ... basketball shootin' ... moose huntin' ... fly-fishin' ... pistol-packing ... mother of five for vice president." Bin Laden where ever he is must be shaking in his shoes by now.
The United States has lost its moral authority
When I hear President Bush tell Russia "Enough is enough" when it comes to their illegal invasion of Georgia, I am left asking; What moral authority gives this man whose own illegal invasion of Iraq the audacity to call upon Russia to stand down? Do I wish that Russia would stand down? Absolutely. The taking of innocent lives is never okay.
Public school teachers are the unsung heroes in this society
Public school teachers are the unsung heroes in this society and as one looks upon the captains of industry, namely Wall Street executives, teachers beat them hands down. As teachers teach, they look to be the solution makers and that to me is meritorious.
Our economy cannot sustain AIPAC's and Israel's influence over us
I think as Americans begin to see these expenditures on Recovery.gov, included in it must be our aid to Israel. While only a fraction of what is about to flow into our economy, still it is OUR hard earned money coming from we the tax payers. Our fiscal aid to Israel lies at the heart of the unstable nature within the Middle East.
I Demand That MSNBC Reinstate Keith Olbermann NOW!
To MSNBC, so, you have a clause that inhibits anyone working for your station to donate funds to political campaigns. So what? Isn't that free speech? Just look at the Citizens United case filed before our U.S. Supreme Court which allowed for billions of dollars to be poured into various campaigns.

Our clear and present danger is Sarah Palin, Fox News and Rush Limbaugh
The clear and present danger to all of us is to listen to hate-filled speech coming from anyone at Fox News, Sarah Palin's past comments, Rush Limbaugh and the rest of their ilk. We have much to solve as a nation and we surely do not need their voices stirring Satan's cauldron of hate.
Note to Sarah Palin: This track mom is going with Obama/Biden
In last night's convention coverage, what I saw is what I have witnessed during these past eight years and that is the use of fear, dividing Americans and not reaching across party lines or those who do not belong to any party. I have been a Republican and this is not the Republican Party I once knew. It is a party of drumbeats and not the party of Lincoln.

Can you spell Sunburn missiles, Senator Joe Lieberman?
Is Senator Lieberman actually thinking it through of the negative ramifications such a military strike by our nation against Iran will bring about? Right now due to our involvement and occupation in Iraq, we do not have the military ground forces available should this bring about a regional war.

Northern Trust of Chicago parties with the tax payer's money
It is highly imperative that as each check goes out that is contained within any bailout, those who receive them are named. How they use these funds backed by our hard earned tax money should also be required to show exactly how these funds are being used. If this criteria cannot be met, then no bailout money should be given.

Long Island Power Deals Another Fiscal Blow to Customers
If you are even thinking of moving to Long Island; think again. While you may opine that I have just hurt the realty market, no, LIPA did that. Perhaps it is they who should get in the face of LIPA since we the people have not been heard up until this point.

Sarah Palin in engaging in tinderbox-politics is a danger to our national security
I do believe this is where we Americans must have conversations with others pointing out just how dangerous Sarah Palin is to our national security. We are living in dangerous times and with the economy in shambles: Who knows what her prose can do? I do believe we are seeing for the first time the real Sarah Palin. When Americans are thirsting for leaders who can unite us, she is doing everything to divide us.
Natasha Richardson: The loss of a good person
Some may ask, why I care so much for an actress who died on the ski slopes and the answer is because she was a good person. She had many surrounding her like her husband Liam Neeson, her mother Vanessa Redgrave along with her sole sister, Joely Richardson who loved her dearly. That should count for something in the grand scheme of life.

'Fix News', Chris Wallace questions if President Obama is our president
To 'Fix News' my advice to you is this, deal with it, get over it, this is your new reality, time to move on and any other statement you have issued to we the people during these eight long years. We have a new president and his name is President Barack Hussein Obama. Oh how sweet the revenge here especially when served cold.

Congrats to Sarah Palin for labeling anonymous leakers, "Jerks"
It is my hope that Gov. Sarah Palin learns from all of this, moves on, and governs her state. To those anonymous sources who look to tear her down again and again, at least Palin still holds an elected position as governor of Alaska. What position of any relevance do you hold? Nada!

Pres. Bush must pardon border patrol agents, Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean
Ramos said of her husband that he "is being held in solitary confinement in a 6-by-12 foot cell, without windows. Ignacio Ramos is not being allowed any exercise time, and he is shackled every time he leaves his cell." And is also being segregated from the rest of the prison population which is understandable given the fact he would be killed within those prison walls.
Democrat, Mark Lesko wins the Brookhaven Town Supervisor's seat
Lastly, to Supervisor-elect, Mark Lesko, listen to the advice of those presently elected to their various seats within the town as well as your new constituents. The future of this town, which is a town greatly loved by so many, only wish you and it the utmost success.
John McCain air quotes showed contempt for women's health issues
If you are a pro-choice woman there is no denying who is on your side. Barack Obama is and not John McCain. Just remember those air quotes and his rolling of his eyes he gave at the third and final presidential debate dismissing the health of a woman. Do I need to say more?
Norm Coleman should get out of incoming Senator, Al Franken's senate seat
As I just counted the days since our last general election it has been 105 days and the Minnesota senate seat formerly held by Norm Coleman has YET to be decided? What 'irreparable harm' is or has been done to former Senator Norm Coleman? That term 'irreparable harm' was used within the Bush V. Gore case.
Foreclosure: The Bush legacy caught on tape and became the destroyer of the American dream
While some may say of Bush's presidency that he kept us safe since 9/11, try telling that to the thousands upon thousands being foreclosed upon as they have lost their jobs during this administration. What they have felt and will continue to feel is abject terror and not at the hands of foreign terrorists, but at the hands of President George W. Bush: The destroyer of the American dream. God help us all.

Economic Stimulus Package: Jindal, Sanford and Barber to constituents, drop dead!
To these Republican governors like Bobby Jindal, Mark Sanford and Haley Barber, keep blowing smoke as you see your state's fiscal resources go up in flames. Hopefully those who elected you, will certainly remember you were playing politics instead of acting like your state's CEOs. Then again as CEOs, you must be taking your lessons from those on Wall Street. Shaking head here.
Yes, Christine O'Donnell, I am calling you stupid
Cute sound-bites and activism within the sexual realm does not a senator make. One must have the fortitude of knowledge in order to be elected senator. Yes, Christine O'Donnell, I am calling you stupid.
President Barack Obama indicted Bush swiftly in his inaugural address
Even our new president, Barack Obama indicted Bush swiftly in his inaugural address, so that history will have that on record. While I do opine that Bush did not care one bit of what our new president was saying, he had to just sit there and take it on the chin in front of the 1.8 million gathered and the billions who viewed it from close and afar.

John McCain is a true patriot unlike Rush Limbaugh
During this past presidential campaign, I was a critic of Senator John McCain, but have come to realize that it is he who is a true patriot as he has chosen to back President Barack Obama in words and in deeds. Something that Rush Limbaugh will never understand.

Robert Gates said, "No, I do not." When asked if Israel posed a threat
Note to both Republicans and Democrats alike: I challenge you to vote Paul and Gravel in your primaries instead of the top-tier candidates who are blowing smoke when it comes to any threat posed by Iran and no threat coming from Israel. Americans for the most part are tired of being played for suckers.

The Gulf Oil Volcano: Oh the Humanity and Environment
A few weeks back a volcano in Iceland blew its top halting air travel within Europe and it only amazed me. It was Mother Nature doing what comes naturally, but this oil volcano is something so artificial and that is why it angers me.
When it comes to the McCain/Palin ticket, the new 'L' word is lying
Yes, Palin is flat out lying to the American people and we should equally tarnish her for telling such lies instead of allowing politicians to tarnish those who are of one political persuasion namely liberals. In my opinion lying, liar and lied has become the new 'L' word.
AIG: I despise corporate executives more than Osama bin Laden
I just wish we had a Homeland Security Department to raise our alert status to red in confronting their sanctioned terrorism. I am now seeing corporate executives as being far more dangerous to us all than Osama bin Laden. I even despise them more.

Miscreants like Rick Santelli are the true 'losers'
Then again, Santelli voted for McCain whose obstructionist friends in both houses of congress have done everything they can to sabotage any plan put forth by President Barack Obama. At least they are trying unlike miscreants like them.

As a mom who has lost children, Joe Biden shares my values
As Joe described how Jill gave him permission to love again, the same came from my subsequent children who are now in their teen years. My daughter arrived roughly a year after my twin sons died and yes, she gave me permission to love again. Then came my son eighteen months later and he too opened up my heart in accepting more love in my life.

Have the media already found Gov. Rod Blagojevich guilty?
Do I personally think he is guilty? I honestly cannot say since I have not been presented with the facts in evidence, hearing the prosecutors, the defense and the witnesses called. The only ones who should rightfully decide are a jury of his peers and not the media, its pundits, and we the people.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg wins my 'Founding Fathers Award'
I wish to congratulate Mayor Michael Bloomberg for having the courage of his convictions by not wishing to align himself with anyone party. I hope that this starts a trend in which people will awaken that they too should claim their independence from party politics. I hope it serves as a wakeup call to our esteemed politicos.
Barack Obama: "We cannot turn back"...McCain chooses Palin?
I do not think we can credit Senator Barack Obama solely for restoring any sense of hope some are feeling now; I feel that it is something that has been locked up in all of us for a long time. I do think the fear we have been force-fed during these past eight years is the reason for hope's imprisonment.

Gonzales justice department will allow a terrorist to be set free on bail
Forget the firing of eight U.S. attorneys at the hands of Alberto Gonzales since the actions of one of his judges is more of a threat to all of us. In this war on terror every single senator should grill him on this one specific issue especially when Carriles was convicted of killing 73 innocent people.

Help find missing children: A lesson from a lost-boy abducted in 1955

Suffolk County, N.Y. Junior Police Academy Graduation: Media Absent
It makes one want to say: What of the good kids who decide to make this world better for all of us? You know the kids who step up to the plate who only wish to make a difference for the betterment of society itself. How I wish the mainstream media would concentrate on these fine young men and women.
Bush wants out of this job...Faster than a car at Nascar
President Bush's mindset is already back in Crawford, Texas. He wants out of this job faster than a car at Nascar. To paraphrase Howard Fineman yesterday as he was being interviewed on Hardball, he has the towel around his neck and is in the locker-room. I just wish there were a way of getting him out those locker-room doors and sent on his way back to Texas.

Citigroup must die in order to make way for stronger banks to thrive
This notion that we cannot allow some banks to die repulses me as five million people are out of work. Are we treating these banks as a human being whose rights trump ordinary citizens in this country? Patients in various hospitals are taken off life support systems every single day when there is no sign of life.

Social Security and Medicare: Our golden years have turned to lead
Why do I have this lingering feeling in reading this depressing news article, it was the grand design all along by the rich and the powerful? My gut tells me the grand design was to put millions of Americans out of work and offer no assistance for those hard working Americans as they face their golden years.
We the people on Election Day must punish John McCain
When John McCain had this to add of the AIG bailout, "We must not bail out the management and speculators who created this mess." Excuse me, senator, you were part of this problem all along and did nothing. Oh please go back to the senate and help a President Obama solve the mess you helped create.
Colin Powell put country first in his endorsement of Barack Obama
I think through his appearance on Meet the Press, he rose again to the defense of this country of ours by telling voters they will have a steady hand at the helm in a President Obama. I do think Americans deserve that as well as the rest of the world who still look to us. But, it is up to all of us to get out on Election Day to come to the aid of our country and elect Barack Obama President of the United States of America.
Iraqi people are praying John McCain is not elected...Let us answer their prayers
As some of us think: We cannot take another four years of a Republican administration, the Iraqi people are praying for their very lives right now. They must be at least praying that we the American people have had ENOUGH and have come to our senses. Do we as Americans sentence the Iraqi people to four more years of death and destruction? If we are truly a compassionate people, then the answer must be NO!
9/11: Challenging 'Loose Change'
It is my hope that in watching that three hour video, by researching the site Debunking911.com as well as these various feeds I presented to you, you may come away with a differing opinion if you have believed all along this was a conspiracy. It is my hope that this editorial is read by the producers of 'Loose Change', Rosie O'Donnell as well as Charlie Sheen.

One sided Joe Biden Vs. a two-sided Sarah Palin
To touch upon briefly of the two-sides that have been presented to the American people: I wonder what foreign leaders are thinking. Are they thinking will we get a Vice President Palin who can't answer what reading material she reads or the different woman who showed up last night. At least they DO KNOW, Senator Joe Biden! That is important as we try and mend the fences that have been broken during these past eight years.

To Christine O'Donnell, you are not like me and millions of Americans
Many Tea Party candidates such as you wish to turn back the clock when it comes to a woman's right to choose even in the case of rape and incest. Try walking in their shoes or being told, "You cannot have an abortion" You are not any of these women, Christine and for that I say, shame on you and damn you!
Vice President-elect Joe Biden: "I may have a bit of a pro-rail bias"
I do think that Vice President-elect, Joe Biden brought something to the table with his "pro-rail bias" that can be a solution to help sever our ties to big-oil. When it comes to the mind-set of traveling by train or bus, our new way forward should be, "I think I can, I think I can" to borrow a sentiment expressed in 'The Little Red Train'.

It is time for Clinton supporters to back the Obama/Biden ticket
During the 2004 presidential campaign as a supporter of former Governor Howard Dean who is now the DNC chair, and as it became apparent that he would not be the nominee of the Democratic Party, for the good of this country, many Dean supporters like me threw our support behind Senator John Kerry.

County Exec., Steve Levy the new darling of the "Tea Party Movement'
Interestingly enough is that his new party affiliation will not take hold until after the general election of November 2010. So, here we have a Republican candidate who by law is still a Democrat. He cannot even vote for himself in this Republican primary. I am still laughing at that one.

Earthquakes are a scientific event and nothing more

Costa Rica Here I Come? And Why Live Here?
I want to live out the rest of my life however long or short it may be without any Tea Party movement and be blessed with health care for all citizens. Costa Rica does have health care for all of its citizens and isn't that grand?

In D.C., McCain became the economic traitor to this country
McCain should head to Mississippi to debate Barack Obama since he has no added value in any proceedings that take place today. In fact the market is headed south. When some on the news yesterday saw McCain coming in to save the day, his actions further endangered all of us. You may as well go and debate Barack Obama, McCain.
9/11: Debunking conspiracy theories
In America we do have the right to our own beliefs based upon what we have read, viewed and what has been relayed to us. I do believe that this will be my last column in addressing this issue since I do feel there are more pressing needs to help our fellow Americans such as jobs, health care and many more vital issues.

Greed is the true demon and cancer
As the government has cracked down on agents that have caused actual cancers which lead to so many deaths; they have failed at cracking down on the cause of this 'Gordon Gekko' cancer. They allowed this one cancer to strike whomever is in its path.

Sarah Palin is not opposed to going to war with Russia
Like Ed Koch who endorsed Barack Obama citing of Sarah Palin, "She scares me", I would have to side with the former mayor. In reading where Palin stated in her interview with ABC's Charlie Gibson she is open to the idea of a war with Russia, it does create a sense of terror within me.
To Joe the Plumber: What is the Balfour Declaration of 1917?
I just could not let this one go: If you, Joe the Plumber are reading this, what is the Balfour Declaration of 1917? I know and many others do, but do you? If not, you have your homework cut out for you since you are going to be covering that part of the world.

Can congress use the USA Patriot Act to address CEO bonuses?
Who would have thought that one of the vilest pieces of legislation signed into law by former President Bush just may be the very tool we can use to help restore some form of fiscal sanity. But, does any congressional leader have the temerity to use this law to address our redress of grievances?

Supermax prisons: Budget cuts were made during the Bush years
If I were a detainee, I would fear being sent to a supermax over GITMO. No open-air cells or dormitory settings, but cement cells where one's food is pushed in by a guard. That is what due process will bring all of us instead of letting them linger in a legal limbo.

Chuck Hagel has proven to be the maverick and not John McCain
Joe Biden was correct when he made this observation, "This is not your father's Republican party, it's a different Republican party!" I can highly relate to that comment coming from Biden. I truly remember when the Republican Party was the party of Lincoln instead of the party of Karl Rove.

Every American must demand that Charlie Gibson interview Joe Biden
Much has been made of Sarah Palin's lack of knowledge when it comes to foreign policy and even I have brought it up. This is where Joe Biden has the upper hand. He is after all the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee. Many have come before him, been placed on the hot seat to answer tough questions.

The $592 million dollar Baghdad embassy built with Washington's approval
This past week, looking at the corruption taking place in Washington, D.C. with Alberto Gonzales, again the illegal wire tapping issue, the illegal immigration bill, this war supplemental bill and again this monstrosity that will house State Department officials in Baghdad, at one point I threw up my hands saying; why vote?

Sarah Palin tries to sell a scary message of Barack Obama on this Halloween Day
In keeping with a scary theme on this Halloween Day, I will end this piece by citing, Senator Thad Cochran who is a Republican senator had to say of John McCain, "The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine," Cochran told the Globe. "He is erratic. He is hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me."

In airing Jay Leno in prime-time, NBC will either strike gold or sink like lead
So what is a television viewer to do who has watched NBC at 10 PM most nights and are not fans of Jay Leno, well, there is a whole-host of other channels to switch to. With the advance of cable channeling, there is a bevy of programs out there to choose from. All you have to do is pick up your remote and surf the channels. If nothing floats your boat, there is always reading a good book.

As a citizen for the Town of Brookhaven, I wish to thank Lori Baldessare
I do not know what the future holds for Lori, but I do wish to thank her for a job well done in keeping the trains running here in my town, The Town of Brookhaven. Rod Blagojevich faces impeachment...Bush on the other hand signed off on torture
I just do not know how the legislature in the state of Illinois can look themselves in the mirror wishing to impeach a governor who never signed off on torture as President Bush did. Blagojevich has done far less than the man who currently leads this country until next Tuesday when Pres.-elect Barack Obama will become president.
Letter to Senator Richard Shelby stating I am boycotting Alabama
I support the Boycott Alabama move in totality. Yes, this is protectionism since we have seen job after job, company after company leave this country and the time for that to end is now. We have our own people to worry about and we have our own companies to care about so that those profits stay here in the United States instead of going to foreign companies and governments.

Rod Blagojevich helped save the jobs at Republic Windows and Doors
Governor Rod Blagojevich deserves a medal in his plight to help save these jobs and now these workers will most likely get if this deal goes through will obtain new jobs, will get to keep a roof over their heads, a salary to feed their families, and medical benefits. Consider that where millions of Americans are losing their jobs coast-to-coast.
Note to 'Joe Six-Pack' do not let McCain pull an October surprise
National security doesn't always mean seeing it through the eyes of McCain as he concentrates on Iraq, it means bringing that security back home here. After eight long and arduous years of being feared by the Republicans, now is our time to stand up and say, we have had ENOUGH!
Torture: Bush, Cheney, et al should be the target and not Speaker Nancy Pelosi
After the attacks that befell this nation on 9/11, former Pres. Bush became a go-it-alone figure doing what he pleased as it pertained to the direction of this country. When it came to the law and adhering to the U.S. Constitution, Bush cited of it: "It is just a god-damn piece of paper", yet Pelosi is the target?
Open letter to Governor Bobby Jindal
Lastly, before President Barack Obama's speech, I was filled with a certain sense of anxiety given our economic crisis, but during it and at the end of it, my fears were eased and I was able to smile. President Barack Obama gave me hope that there will be better days ahead of us. You gave me nothing. Chris Matthews of MSNBC put it correctly in stating that some may see you as Governor Buzz kill.

The survivors of abortion

Goodbye and good riddance to President George W. Bush and the true Bush legacy
To President George W. Bush, while you have done immense damage to this nation, there is one thing you have not damaged and that is the spirit of a people. Our spirits are still intact as we await the swearing in ceremony of our new president who will then be, President Barack Obama and his second in command, Vice President Joe Biden.

Is consumerism and suburbia sustainable?...Lessons from the Amish
I have to wonder after any blackout occurs such as in Kentucky, if folks learn anything from it. Or do they go about life as usual, jumping in their SUVs to head to their local or not so local Wal-Marts to purchase vast amounts of goods they want, but not necessarily they need.

Is John McCain a sexist by choosing Sarah Palin?
We have seen how Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has been ineffective in closing any real deals over in the Middle East: Just how effective will a Vice President Sarah Palin be should she visit that region without a working knowledge of that region's history?

Are we prepared when it comes to earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes and tornadoes?
we must ask ourselves is our tax money better spent waging wars, bailing out Wall Street and other boondoggles or do we start paying attention to what Mother Earth is trying to tell us? After all, earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes and tornadoes have taken more lives than Al Qaeda has up until the present. Which is our greater threat and concern?
From the perspective of a pro-life American: George Tiller's murderer was not pro-life
The man who took the life of George Tiller; Scott Roeder as frustrated as he was with Tiller in performing late-term abortions, he crossed the line. He took a human life and that is not being a pro-life advocate. As much as he and others thought of Tiller as a murderer, once any pro-life activist takes the life of another, they too become a murderer. There is no un-ringing that bell.
To Senators McCain and Cornyn: President Barack Obama was correct in saying, "I won!"
It is time for these Republicans to get on board, lose whatever selfish pride they may have and get to work on behalf of we the people who handed your party a resounding defeat. After all, our memories are as long as an elephant and we do remember how devastating the Bush administration was along with the Republican Party who led this country with such brute force during the first six years of it.

Shirley Meyer said of Maria Amin, "She won't be going anywhere"
I truly believe that there are angels walking amongst us here on Earth and in my opinion, Shirley Meyer is one. It takes incredible strength and yes faith in one's ability to confront powerful forces especially where a child's life is at stake. In this country, doctors take an oath which states, "First do no harm" and that is precisely what she is doing.
The Pelican Brief in the Gulf of Mexico
This oil volcano will certainly have a devastating affect on the region for years and years to come. Thanks to big oil, it will certainly be that regions Waterloo.
Many have feared Bush...To them I say, meet Sarah Palin
It is not so much her unpreparedness to become the next vice president and perhaps president of the United States should McCain die in office that scares me, but what she may be prepared to do and that is launch World War Three. I truly believe that a third world war is one where we will not survive once the genie is let out of the bottle.

There are far more powerful women in our lives instead of Sarah Palin
There are women, who wear our military uniforms to insure this country's safety day-in-and-day-out, but their faces are not seen or heard from as the media concentrates on her. Many of them have died in service to God and country. Who exactly does she think she is in denigrating those around her as women have come home in caskets in service to you and me?
Message to Ann Coulter: When will you apologize?
Ann, it is about time that you apologize to the 9/11 widows, the victims of Darfur, the people of Baghdad, Anna Nicole Smith's daughter and yes the Rutgers women's basket ball team since you used this tragic case by interjecting what other names could have been used against them.

Perhaps Gitmo should remain open
This is where I can only dream and fantasize about Gitmo being kept open to receive these detainees who terrorized and will continue to terrorize millions of Americans and bankrupted our country. One has to wonder if anyone will bother coming to their aid.
September 11th anniversary: We must realize wars without end is not the answer
Looking back and remembering that bright-sunny day where over 3,000 lives were lost: one of the most memorable visual imageries I will take away from that day is of how many leapt to their deaths from the Twin Towers or the first-responders who climbed their own stair ways to Heaven in order to save lives. We must not forget their selfless sacrifice to our country and their fellow human beings.

Rod Blagojevich: Who will be the next to be tried by the media?
In the end, I wish former Gov. Blagojevich my best wishes since I am not cheering his removal from office today. I am also waiting for who the next person to be tried by the media instead of in a court of law. Good luck, Mr. Blagojevich in finding impartial jurors since the media already tried you.
Message to Senator McCain concerning debates: Bring em on!
Those that are still on the fence need to hear from these two candidates come Friday night. In fact, we as Americans need to hear from Senators Obama and McCain as to who can lead us rationally into the future. Let the debates go on.

Pro-choice voters must not vote for the McCain/Palin ticket
any woman who is undecided and men for that matter who do believe in a woman's right to choose should not vote for the McCain/Palin ticket. Those who believe in a woman's right to choose and are angry that Senator Obama did not choose Senator Clinton as his running mate must remember that Clinton is pro-choice. Therefore, they should not pull the lever for the McCain/Palin ticket.

Andrew Cuomo: Should be the next junior senator from New York State
While I originally backed the Nassau County Executive, Thomas Suozzi, the man I can see filling that seat also has name recognition and it is none-other than the New York State Attorney General, Andrew Cuomo. His father, Mario Cuomo served proudly as our state's governor.
Ron Paul: The bionic candidate
You would have thought with the Christmas season upon us, this campaign would not have seen this bionic-number, but it did. Maybe the people want an early 2008 Christmas present. Who can blame them when year after year especially during the Bush years, all the American people have received is coal in their stockings.

I cannot forgive, Michael Vick who profited off of death
I cannot forgive anyone who profits off of the deaths of both man and animal alike and that has been my stance throughout these years as I have written of war. If I can call Bush a butcher for the senseless killings of innocent human beings, namely Iraqis, I can surely call Vick one for the senseless killings of dogs.

Abortion: Who will speak out for the little ones?
It is my hope that this one column will not be met with utter contempt, but one of thoughtful reflection. If you are still pro-choice after reading this, it is your right as a free and individual thinker to remain so. I just felt the need to reach out and speak out for those whose voices I never heard. They are the voices of unborn babies.

The history of coffee as it relates to political debate
The history of our political debate and the information age can be traced directly back to coffee houses which were referred to as "penny universities" where people would gather to discuss not only politics, but religion, poetry and yes, gossip.
Red States and blue states must band together by turning away from McCain and Palin
A few weeks ago, John McCain said of the economy that it was "fundamentally strong" and reading this report, I am left to ask: Is this the man we need leading the country come November 4th? This personal terrorism we are all feeling is one of his own making since he and Gramm set the stage for it and I cannot stress that enough. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, McCain!

The Stony Brook University Hotel is: Jobs, Baby, Jobs
In my opinion THE MOST POWERFUL words in today's economy are: “I have a job”, but for millions they do not feel such power. For many past bread-winners, they are finding it tougher and tougher to put mac-and-cheese on the dinner table.

Expanding Route 347 on Long Island, NY does not make for a green project
They think by adding paths for bikes and walkers as well as medians to grow trees is truly what is needed in order to call it a green project? Long Island is still the land of the automobile and we are rewarding this bad habit given the fact our bus system here in Suffolk County has not been funded adequately.
Baghdad bombings: We are a warrior nation instead of a healing nation
As I have said from day one when we launched “Shock and Awe”, the Iraqi people have undergone a 9/11 event on a daily basis for six years without any end in sight. Through our own actions at the hands the previous Bush administration, we became the terrorists of an innocent people.

Now is not the time for Gov. David Paterson to appoint Caroline Kennedy
It is my sincere hope that Governor David Paterson seek out qualified candidates such as Tom Suozzi or others like him within our state and not give into party politics in naming Caroline Kennedy to this senate seat. We must remember quote heard round the world when former President Bill Clinton first ran for president when he said, "It's the economy, stupid!"

I am in a world of pain and I will vote Democrat!
To the young progressive aka Democratic voters, exactly why do you wish to sit on the couch instead of getting out the vote for Democrats who have delivered so much? There are millions of people in this country in a world of hurt, yet you wish to sit this election out? I cannot for the life of me understand that thinking. Get off the f*cking couch and elect and re-elect Democrats!
Gaza: Do some see Palestinians as non-humans?
What I cannot for the life of me understand is how a people namely the Israeli government could treat human beings as their ancestors were in the ghettos of Poland during World War Two. That comparison is something very rarely discussed. In this country we tend to see Muslims as being only the aggressors in this post 9/11 world.

Is Fallujah, Iraq our economic penance? Oh you betcha!
So, I ask now, where are the war crimes charges now when it comes to the prosecution of the Iraq War and its chief enforcer, former Pres. George W. Bush? In my opinion through a bill of lies, he created a holocaust in Fallujah, Iraq. Yet, no one within the mainstream American media is focused on that fact.

Martin Tankleff: Thanked supporters for "Making his fight, their fight"
In my opinion true justice for those guilty while protecting those who may be innocent is life in prison without the possibility of parole. This way the defense team working on behalf of those innocent have time to save that defendant's life and those guilty will spend the rest of their lives in prison which I feel is a fate worse than death itself.
The Eve of Destruction and I Feel Like I'm Fixin to Die
If you think for one second that the top-tier presidential candidates on both sides of the political aisle can deliver us from this madness, think again. This message goes to both Republicans and Democrats alike do not vote for any of these top-tier candidates in the upcoming primaries. Our very survival depends upon it.
Economically, Barack Obama is correct in using diplomacy when it comes to Iran
I do think this report on how cuts will have to be made in military spending does bode well for Barack Obama who seeks the use of diplomacy when it comes to countries such as Iran. Given our current economic climate, we cannot continue to fund these endless wars that has been McCain's clarion-call throughout this campaign. Next time you hear McCain state we must fight this war in Iraq to its victory ask him: With what money?
The war on terror is NWS since our new terror is the economy
After all, the true terror we found ourselves in yesterday is that we may not have found bottom. The Dow closed at 6,763.29 and that scares me more than Al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden because both are not within my home and our homes but this financial beast is. There is your real terrorist, folks.

Virginia Tech was of human loss and not a conspiracy theory
All that lost their lives, were wounded and responded to this on behalf of all of us suffered a terror that none of us can even imagine. All are deserving of our prayers. There is real human suffering going on in Virginia and we must all think of them.
Imagine 47 million of signs stating: "Where's my health care?"
Forget Al Qaeda when the terror that faces millions of Americans is no health insurance. Osama bin Laden is so far out of people's minds as the medical bills come to their homes. Their enemy is not sleeper cells, terrorist cells in a far off land, but their own government as well as insurance companies as well as drug companies.

In not voting for the spending bill, McCain abandoned Ohio and Michigan
While McCain said he will support the $700 billion bailout to Wall Street according to Fox, he did not exactly support those living in Michigan and Ohio. McCain had this to say of the bailout bill, "This is something that all of us will swallow hard and go forward with," I wonder how those living on Main Street in both of those states feel right now. Do the voters in Ohio and Michigan feel abandoned by McCain?
