Sarah Palin and the prank call: The GOP's self-inflicted November surprise Over the next two days she will be barnstorming on behalf of Senator John McCain and she will deliver tough messages and why voters should vote for their ticket. After today's prank that was pulled on her, she lost whatever credibility the Republican ticket thought they had.

The $780 billion stimulus bill can be paid down if we legalized marijuana With the amount we can tax this commodity with, plus how much we can rake in growing our own crops as well as how much we can save in prosecuting any offenders: That $780 billion dollar stimulus bill can be paid down in no time.

Is John McCain's quest for the presidency effectively over? One can almost see that he has abdicated this race when he answered a supporter who clearly stated that he was scared of Senator Obama and McCain stated, "He is a person you do not have to be scared of as president of the United States." One must wonder if in that moment in time he somehow realized that his campaign was effectively over.

As the Republican members gathered in a mob-mentality to show themselves flexing their political muscle, what they failed to do was to listen to the individual voices of those who have lost their jobs. They failed at listening to the personal and for that, I say, shame on them!

Scooter Libby deserves no pardon and Bush should be held accountable How dare any politician and pundit out there state that Scooter Libby is deserving of any pardon. Any citizen that knowingly breaks the law must face punishment if the American legal system is to remain a constant. If one person is given a pardon after breaking the law then the system itself is broken. A jury's verdict must be upheld and respected and yes even if a juror feels some sympathy towards the defendant.

Lessons drawn from an Iraqi boy named, Youssif There must be a lesson here when complete strangers will come to the aid of these children of war. They are first brought to our attention by the media and that is when we do react and take a stand against powerful forces that look to rip the humanity from all of us. War after all is as inhumane as it gets.

On July 4th, let's Carpe Diem...A lesson from the demise of the immigration bill Yesterday, those of us who were opposed to this immigration bill put President Bush in his rightful place. We made him irrelevant. Now that is independence. It was our 'Mission Accomplished' moment which will hopefully be recorded in the annals of history.

Note to Gov. Schwarzenegger: Freedom and liberty means not filling seats This country has a myriad of issues to address and more importantly solve. It sure seems that the people are being left behind and all I have to say is leave political parties behind. Perhaps, these bozos in Washington, D.C. will sit up and take notice and for once work on behalf of 'we the people'. If they don't they should go find other work.

To rejoin or not...That is the question Whatever decision I make will be personal. However, I will continue to be independent in my prose and will never adhere strictly to one political doctrine. The only thing I will state publicly is that I am an American first and foremost. How I wish most of our elected officials at the federal level felt that same way and in the same light. We would all be the better for it.

The Orwellian Clinton ad: Controlled ads versus uncontrolled ads I feel that his making of that commercial was stupid beyond belief especially when you have those on the opposite side of the political aisle able to make their own negative and controlled commercials targeting Democratic candidates.

Where are Hillary Clinton's tears for our soldiers and innocent Iraqis? This column is dedicated to all of our soldiers who have lost their lives in Iraq and who have come home maimed. This column is also dedicated to the countless innocent Iraqis who have been killed at the hands of the United States government.

9/11: We all deserve a morning after and must condemn zealotry To the 2,986 who lost their lives on 9/11, we a peaceful people do mourn you. We must also mourn 3,773 of our troops have been killed since the war began. We must mourn the 676 soldiers that have lost their lives in Afghanistan whose deaths are barely mentioned. We must equally mourn the one million innocent Iraqis who have lost their lives as has been reported.

In the spirit of Ramadan, I apologize to the Iraqi people I will continue to speak out against this heinous war, and I will continue to pray that a leader emerges that will end this carnage. A true leader, who has morals, truly knows and understands the teachings of God, and one who has true compassion and has done so in both words and deeds. I also pray that a leader comes forth who truly knows the harm we have caused you and has the courage of conviction to end it.

Message to Congress: Strip the pork but not the timeline Excuse me as I blow my stack once more as one reads that contained within this bill as reported by the Examiner, "The $100 million for the political party conventions - $50 million for the Democratic convention in Denver and $50 million for the Republican convention in St. Paul, Minn. - is included in a section described as "Katrina recovery, veterans' care and for other purposes."

Rehashing the 2004 campaign as it relates to the taser incident As many more of our soldiers die in this war, it is heightening people's emotions. Many feel this war could have been handled differently had Kerry stuck to his guns and challenged that outcome. Maybe, just maybe Senator Kerry as president would have ended it. But, we will never know.

The hypocrisy of both Mitt Romney and Pat Robertson In closing in calling for the assassination of Pres. Hugo Chavez and later apologizing Robertson was clearly not showing signs of being pro-life. At least when it comes to the pro-life movement, Pres. Chavez puts his money where his mouth is.

To President Bush, "You can't always get what you want" Bush only has less than two more years as our president and perhaps our congress members especially our Democratic ones can best define his legacy by not giving into Bush and NOT pulling that language from that bill.

DNC, Chair Howard Dean has abandoned the base as he courts evangelicals This is where I feel like matching the 'Dean scream' in seeing this move by the Democratic National Committee Chair, Howard Dean. To Howard Dean, your base has been there, but you have left the base in the dust.

Some politicians need to zip it up and get back to the people's business To the offending politicians no matter what party who choose to behave badly, all I will say is zip it up and get on with the people's business. That is what you were elected to do in the first place. Do 'we the people' expect perfect politicians? Of course not, but what we crave are ones that are at least trying.

Politics: Is America receiving only the chaff instead of the wheat? when the media focuses primarily on these top-tier candidates another quote from Adlai E. Stevenson comes to mind as it pertains to the media, "An editor is someone who separates the wheat from the chaff and then prints the chaff." So are Americans only receiving the chaff and not the wheat? You tell me.

Running on empty I would challenge the leaders of both parties that each and every member of congress are to be present as life and death issues are debated within the senate and the house. I would submit that the debate is as empty as the seats of our elected officials.

Selfishly, Joe Lieberman Holds a Gun to Our Heads In the Star Trek movie "The Wrath of Khan," Spock sacrifices his life for those on the Starship Enterprise. "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few and the one," he told Captain Kirk. At the other end of the spectrum stands Joe Lieberman: "The needs of the few outweigh the needs of the many."

Bush's War: The illegality and the certainty of death that surrounds it I want to add by stating to all of these Republican candidates that are comfortable with our presence in Iraq and back this president; how can anyone even think of voting for you if you are backing an illegal action? By all intents and purposes to further this policy you too will be breaking the law.

If Republicans choose Giuliani; are they stuck on stupid? In winding down the Bush administrations stranglehold of this country, I really feel that a vast majority of Americans are thirsting and craving for a real change. If the Republicans wind up choosing Giuliani as their candidate, we will all be in for more of the same, if not worse. To the Republican Party, please tell me that you have learned from your past mistakes.

Hey, Albany lawmakers, fork over that $320 million in sales tax revenue for better buses To these Albany lawmakers, who seek to punish Steve Levy and the citizens of this county, please remember that illegal aliens too need transportation if you are seeking to make their lives better. How about we give not only them, but citizens of this county a bus system that actually works?

Congress needs to foreclose on the war in Iraq and turn off the spigot It is time for congress to stop lending our tax money to President Bush. Then again, lending may be the wrong word since we will never see that money again. It is being gobbled up in front of our eyes and this congress time and time again refuses to turn off the spigot.

Local races: Those who chose not to vote should be ashamed of themselves The late President John F. Kennedy once said, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country" and I do believe what you can do for your country as well as your local races is to come out and vote.

In funding of the Iraq War, supporters have thrown our soldiers under the bus This is no longer about red versus blue, but about red white and blue. We as Americans have had a long history of facing our greatest fears and confronting them head on. During the Cold War, we stared down the Soviet Union and we are going to let a bully president instill fear in all of us? No, that is NOT the American way.

Why Me? Voices from America I just wish I had more answers to give my readers, but when I do not see real action coming from Washington, D.C., I too am at a loss. So, to the politicos in Washington, D.C.; do you think you can get on the ball and get the people's business done?
