Waiting for the Quails to Come Home to Roost

Finally, Dick Cheney has spoken""a very tardy admission that the day he shot Harry Whittington is a day he will never forget. "It was one of the worst days of my life," Cheney said in the "friendly" Fox News interview.

I'd like to remind Dick Cheney that there are plenty of days my family will never forget. One of those is August 7, 2005 when my sister called to say, "Chase was killed in Iraq last night." That means Marine Lance Cpl. Chase J. Comley died on August 6, 2005, another day that will never be forgotten. The August 13th burial is another day that will never be forgotten. Actually, every single day since Chase died is a day we will never forget because life for my family is measured in halves""before and after Chase died.

Will Cheney's life be measured in halves""before and after he shot his friend Harry? I doubt it.

The VP was forced because of criticism to appear and make his statement. Behind closed doors, he's probably saying to Karl, Lynne, and to George, "Well, if Harry didn't look so much like a quail." And, really, that's the tenor of this entire administration. It is defined by its unwillingness to assume responsibility for its egregious actions and mistakes in judgment that have cost so much in human life as well as in dollars.

Cheney also admitted that he's the "guy who pulled the trigger." Thanks for the revelation. He's the guy along with all those other guys, Bush, Rove, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Perle, and the gal, Rice, who pulled the trigger that killed my nephew Chase. And he's the guy along with Bush, Rove, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, and Perle, and the gal, Rice, who pulled the triggers that have killed almost 2,300 troops who've died since the Iraq invasion""a war that should never have been fought.

I am waiting, quite impatiently, for the White House Top Guns to admit responsibility for all these deaths. I want to hear them say that they're culpable""that it was their decision predicated on greed and power to send the expendable off to fight their war.

Now, Cheney is on the front burner as is Rice who just stated that the world is a better place today because of the incursion and occupation of Iraq. My family doesn't think so. Our world without Chase is a place of irreconcilable sadness. How has this war affected Rice? It has stoked her ego""given her life meaning""made her a power-player. But someday at some moment, perhaps, when her head hits the pillow or when she awakens, she may have an epiphany that all that democracy she thought she was spreading was really the inspiration for more terrorism. Rice has just testified that the international community is condemning Iran, but has she forgotten that the same community was opposed to our invasion of Iraq? She's a smart cookie. She has to recognize the hypocrisy. George isn't bright. He's incapable of epiphanies. Instead, he's malleable""the dough that Karl and Cheney molded to cast their duplicitous agendas for world domination. But Bush's shallowness doesn't provide him a get-out-of-jail-free card. Nooooo. In fact, the concept that he is at the country's helm is terrifying. As are all those category five egos who are pushing for endless war. Their heads are as big as the Ritz.

Yes, Bush Inc. has pulled the trigger to blow away so many lives. When will the quails come home to roost? Soon, I hope. Yes, I want revenge. I'm way beyond letting the gods sort this out. I need George W. Butcher and Company to pay dearly for all this unnecessary death. I'm sure Iraqis feel the same way.

I will not rest until the movement for the Bush Administration's downfall is loud and large enough to bring the criminals to their knees before a world court that prosecutes and finds them guilty of war crimes.
