A lame duck politician is someone in office who is neither beholden to the constituency that elected him or her nor able to garner any political support. Maybe they should change the name to dead duck. This would be more appropriate, since we should consider the time until Jan 20th 2009 dead time. All policy changes, bailouts, votes and any other executive or congressional business should be put on hold. Back in the early 30's the President didn't take office until March 4th. The 20th amendment adressed this and changed it to Jan. 20th. In this day and age, especially with the complex problems facing this country, this date should be modified even further. I know the president elect needs time to gather his cabinet and advisors, but why isn't this done during the campaign? Some think this is presumptuous, but we know 1 of 2 people will win so why wait. this country can ill afford a dead duck government for such a long period. I suggest at least change it to Jan 2nd and give the incoming elected the time to address policy, so that they can hit the floor running. They say a day is a lifetime in politics and with our news cycle as it is, 60 days is an eternity. Bush may not be through with his neocon agenda. Let's put everything on hold and cross our fingers that our crippled web footed friends will stay put while we get our new ducks in a row.
