I've been thinking of a client of mine lately. She emailed me and I wrote her back. She wrote me again, asking why I didn't write back. I emailed her again, assuring her that I was indeed writing back! (Of course, I couldn't find her phone number.) Finally she wrote back to tell me that she assumed that since she hadn't heard from me that I was mad at her!

My hit is there was a computer glitch – probably my emails were suddenly going into the spam file. But my client probably never thought of that; she could only believe that I didn't want to talk with her. She didn't call me to find out. There was no outer reason to think this – it has to do with her life experiences. And so we lost touch, and I can't do anything about her getting wounded again by someone she trusted. Even though that isn't the truth of the situation.

There are choices we make about how we see life – the old glass half full or half empty complex. How much pain we cause ourselves by our beliefs!

Welcome to Sagittarius! The sign that rules our beliefs. The heavenly Centaur says, “Don't ever doubt that what you believe about yourself and life influences how your life turns out.”

When the Sun comes to its yearly visit to Sagittarius, life deepens. The days get shorter. The darkness brings the cold. We naturally turn within. Add to that the beauty of the early December twilight sky, a soft, velvety teal blue. The long night skies of Sagittarius can fill us with wonder. And so our thoughts turn to Spirit. The Catholics call this time Advent, meaning 'coming'; this is the period of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of Christmas, the Birth of the Light of the World. How else should we celebrate this time than contemplating our life and purpose?

The Centaur Archer points his arrow at the Galactic Center, which is located in Sagittarius. In many mystical traditions, the Galactic Center of the Milky Way Galaxy is called the Womb of the Universe. The belief is that our spiritual and evolutionary instructions emerge from that dark womb. Scientists have discovered that the Galactic Center is a giant black hole, emitting tremendous amounts of energy that spread throughout the galaxy. No wonder we pause during this time of year to contemplate the inner, spiritual truths of life. It prepares us for the Winter Solstice and the re-birth of the New Sun. And this year is special, because Pluto enters Capricorn just in time to celebrate it.

This year, we get to experience a deeper renewal of our beliefs, since Pluto will conjoin the Sun on Winter Solstice, December 21st. This only happens once every 248 years, a whole Pluto cycle. Since the first day of Capricorn represents the birth of the Divine Spirit (the Divine Child, the Light, the Winter Solstice Sun), let's remember the benign, loving Mother who gives birth to this Light. She is the guide and protector of the divine within each of us.

Perhaps as the banking system fails, She can show us that money isn't everything. She might help re-direct our attention to the most important things in life. Wouldn't it be a relief not to have to think and worry about money? Especially during the holidays. Can you do it for a day? With money off center stage, where does your attention go? What do you really want out of life? And how can you give yourself to the people in your life – instead of a store-bought present? Just how much more stuff do we really need? We have been complaining about the commercialism of Christmas for years now. So why not go out and do something fun, be with people joyously, and stop worrying this Christmas.

Cathy Pagano is the author of a new book, "Wisdom's Daughters: How Women Can Change the World". Cathy trained at the C. G. Jung Institut-Zurich in dream interpretation, then got her M.A. in Counseling Psychology in Feminine Spirituality, and along the way became a certified Life Coach. Cathy works with the tools of the imagination - dreams, alchemy, myths, astrology, symbolic language, storytelling, ritual - to awaken the Soul's wisdom.

I believe that Americans are called to a higher consciousness at this point in our history. We are called on to live up to our ideals and create the country our forefathers imagined. Inner consciousness needs to be acted upon for social justice.

Cathy believes that our writers and artists must take up our responsibility to create art that inspires, teaches and heals our humanity.

Cathy writes about political, psychological/spiritual, and cultural issues.
