Harry Reid shows no leadership as he stands with Lieberman and against Burris

After just writing a column dealing with the crisis in Gaza which should really be the focus of senators like Harry Reid, he should just accept the Illinois designate to fill the vacated senate seat, namely Roland Burris and get onto more important issues such as the suffering being felt by those in Gaza.

Harry Reid is the Senate Majority Leader and there are times when he does not show any leadership, but cowardice.  Case in point is when Harry Reid called President Bush a “loser” and then later apologized to none-other than Karl Rove back in May of 2005.  Bush is far more than a loser and we have eight-years of evidence to prove it and he wants to pick a fight with a man, Burris who has not broken any law and has served honorably as both the comptroller and attorney general for the state of Illinois.

As Gov. Rod Blagojevich faces a probable impeachment from the Illinois state legislature, there has been literally no impeachment talk coming from ‘leaders’ like Harry Reid when it comes to the actions of President Bush who lied us into a war killing over 4,000 American soldiers and countless and innocent Iraqi citizens.  It truly boggles the mind how these senate and congressional Democrats can look to distance themselves from men like Blagojevich and Burris while they have capitulated to Bush time and time again.

Back in June of 2007 the senate voted on the immigration reform bill while President Bush was away at the G-8 Summit in Europe where it went down in flames.  President Bush upset that this bill was not passed asked Senate Majority Leader Reid to reintroduce it to the senate for yet another vote.  What did Reid do?  He resubmitted it again where it went down the second time.  Another example of Reid bending over backwards for President Bush.  The immigration reform bill was debated more than our invasion into Iraq.

During this past presidential campaign, Senator Joe Lieberman spoke at the Republican National Convention on behalf of his friend John McCain who was Barack Obama’s challenger.  Lieberman had this to say of then Senator Barack Obama, “In the Senate he has not reached across party lines to get anything significant done, nor has he been willing to take on powerful interest groups in the Democratic Party.” As we all know Barack Obama won by a landslide, yet, what was Joe Lieberman’s punishment if any coming from leaders like Reid? He still remains as the chair of the Homeland Security Committee.  He bent over backwards for a traitor in Lieberman, but is not willing to seat an honorable Democrat and one who does call himself a Democrat.  His name is Roland Burris.

When the stock market crashed perhaps Harry Reid and others should have grilled those bank executives as they did the executives of the Big-Three.  That TARP package which was supported by President Bush has done nothing to help this ailing economy as bank executives spend our tax dollars in their own free-market style without any accountability to any of us.  Reid and others will try and stick it to men like Blagojevich and Burris, yet do nothing to these bank executives as they spend, spend, spend our tax money on themselves.  If there is ever a crime, these bank executives are committing treason against the United States of America.

Lastly, there is one man who did fight on behalf of displaced workers and his name is Governor Rod Blagojevich.  I am strongly urging all of you who read this piece to listen to how he stood up for the workers at the Energy Star Windows company.  The day after, Blagojevich was set to go to court to fight on behalf of these workers, it was the very day he was arrested.  I still find that audaciously suspicious. Exactly how has Harry Reid fought on behalf of the workers of this country?

We have an economy in a tailspin, two wars still being waged, Israel attacking Gaza and millions of Americans who do need jobs and my message is clear to Harry Reid: You have failed to show any leadership in the past, now is the time to seat Roland Burris and move this country forward.  Harry Reid will stand up for senators like Lieberman and call a disgraced and convicted felon Ted Stevens, “distinguished”, yet you are failing to stand up for a man whose only desire is to serve the citizens of Illinois and his name is Roland Burris.
