Liberalism failed because it is based on a theory of cognitions that is wrong. We never make any progress because we are inculcated in an antiquated epistemology. Social democracy with emphasis on the synthetic cognition should be the replacement.

So called "leaders" increasingly are of a particular kind of psychological makeup (extroverted and authoritarian) and tend to favor the analytic over the synthetic cognition. Institutions, unchecked in the cognitive sense over time, come to protect themselves rather than serve the people they ostensibly represent.
