The singing mermaid has proven to be a more attractive alternative than staying the course.
The Republican rats are abandoning the sinking USS McCain in droves. The John McCain wreck with the intellectually deficient Sarah Palin waiting for the helm is much too dark a ride even for them to stomach. Unfortunately, the vast majority of these rats are excellent swimmers.
Whether these rats are suddenly for Obama or against Palin does not really matter in the grand scheme of things. McCain’s campaign is disintegrating right before our eyes and the fact is, not even thinking Republicans want to spend the next four years trapped at what essentially will be the theme park of the unthinkable. Palin represents too many awful things, and the Obama endorsements by Colin Powell, Doug Kmiec, Lincoln Chafee, Ken Duberstein, Susan Eisenhower, Scott McClellan, Jeffrey Hart, Rita Hauser, Jim Leach, Christopher Buckley, David Caprara, David Friedman, Ron Reagan, CC Goldwater, Julie Nixon and so many other staunch GOP members, finally shows true partisan agreement: we want the winking, smirking Sarah Palin to go-go away.
Even if the endorsements are just for show---after all, one can endorse something but do absolutely nothing to support it much like Dick Cheney and the US Constitution, overall these reveal a lot about the state of the Republican party.
Wednesday brings with it the happy prospect of seeing Palin on the national stage for the last time...at least for now, and barring the greatest theft in election history via devilish intervention. After all, Cheney is still backing McCain.
