I see no way to put the "genie back in the box," as to do so would be fighting the second law of thermodynamics, namely that low entropy (a measure of order or disorder) flows to high entropy. We can holler and scream all we want--maybe even like Rachel Madcow on "Russiagate"--and we simply can't change the laws of nature.
We can't alter the ever-heating planet to stick within the narrow bounds for growing crops, on a scale to feed the human population. The five major breadbaskets of the planet are already being hit hard by the slowing and wavering jet stream, caused by the loss of Arctic ice. There is no known way, or imo no conceivable way, to recapture the CO2, methane, and other greenhouse gasses we've dumped into the atmosphere, as we've pooped into the nest of our home planet. (No need for Elon or anyone else to go to Mars, as that's what it will look like here, sooner than later).
Of course this may all be irrelevant as our wars rage on, to accommodate our Killing Empire, as we're doing quite well with around the globe.
The only upside I can see is that the upcoming human extinction will be reasonably equitable for the human species, with no more need for worrying about wealth distribution, flossing your teeth, or pretty much anything else. The best solution I can conceive of is a large time machine, for that small but sensible part of Homo sapiens to go back 150 years or so and put on the thinking caps they were born with.
