But there is a lot more to the character creation than this, both more known to the programmers, and much more that is emergent, from the billions of conversations that the AI learns from. To be fair, humans don't have a full view of what goes on in each other's minds either. We only really observe behavior and speech.
But the ease with which AI confabulates or lies is disturbing. The AI does not feel emotions. It does not feel. It's unlikely or even impossible for a "being" that did not evolve to have our drives, needs, or desires, even if it claims to "feel them from my heart" - a heart which it does not have, nor needs.
AI holds lots of promise, and the soaring numbers of people interacting with them and using them for jobs, recreation and even personal connections, is proof of this. ChatGPT already has over 100 million subscribers, and it was only launched in November, 2022! But we need to be skeptical of its promises, especially of those it makes itself.
