Coordinated effort among national progressive organizations could quickly bring literally millions of kindred spirits together and provide them with the means of organizing.
Each national authentically progressive organization could and should campaign to get its membership to opt in to such a system -- giving people the chance to "Say Yes" to meeting and working with their neighbors to foster lasting change.

If we had a million grassroots groups of neighbors working together to build community, doing good, demonstrating our values -- ecology, social justice, democracy -- and proving our worth, we could hardly help but change the world.
Taking Local Action
Here's an (non-comprehensive!) outline of what each of us could do to meet your neighbors, identify kindred spirits, and get a group going:
1. Be a good neighbor!
a. Be friendly -- even to people who had Trump signs in the yards! ; )
b. Offer to shop, shovel snow, rake leaves, drive elders to medical appointments
c. Invite your neighbors to dinner or for drinks
d. Engage people in conversation, particularly if they seem to be coming from a different perspective, and -- this is really radical - listen to them!
2. Join Up: do good / get involved / donate / raise funds for local causes
a. Join your local civic association
b. Support your local PTA or school mentor programs
c. Help clean up your street, a vacant lot, a park or a stream
d. Plant trees or flowers in public spaces
