This episode not only exposes the total mendacity of the Western media and the "toughminded" people responsible for setting US policy, but it shows that the "peace initiative" with Russia is a farce. As Russia supports Syria, which now will likely find Trump changing his tune, (not to mention Iran, which Trump is eager to attack), it puts the two nations in utter conflict.
I will conclude by citing Voltaire: "People who can persuaded to believe absurdities can be persuaded to commit atrocities."
Vietnam was a war built on lies, killing 3 million people, many by the chemical weapon of Agent Orange. Birth defects and many more people continue to die from Agent Orange now, 40 years later.
That is the price of accepting lies and caving into the pressure to accept them, when all logic and evidence refutes them. And now we have a man who ran on Big Lies and promising peace with Syria and Russia denouncing both based on more Big Lies.
The tragic consequences of the coup that brought Trump to power are now evolving into the violence, threats, and lies that leaders who rule without consent of the governed must perforce use to exercise their power. It is for progressives now to reject this surrender to the Big Lies that have propelled US policy, as the fake peace that Trump promised surrenders to the universe of propaganda.
Not only has Trump escalated the genocidal attacks on Yemen and threatened to attack Iran if it continues to test missiles but he is now in the process of siding with ISIS to seek the removal of Assad. He has returned to the CIA, which claims it is not subject to the rules of war (per its attorney), the independent autonomy to conduct drone strikes which Clinton/Obama had curtailed. He "loves" the CIA, and their investment in his selection as Commander in Chief is now paying off.
