This book could easily have been one thousand pages, not 278, and it still would have only just barely covered the topic. As a primer for American political history 1945 to present, it is superb. If you wish to add to your knowledge, there are a large number of books listed in the Notes section, including Daniel Patrick Moynihan's Secrecy: The American Experience, David McCullough's Truman, Victor Marchetti and John Marks' The CIA and the Cult of Intelligence, as well as Greg Kintzer's Overthrow: America's Century of Regime Change From Hawaii to Iraq. I would also add Peter Dale Scott's Deep Politics and the Death of JFK and John Perkins' Confessions of an Economic Hitman to that list.
I heartily recommend this book to anyone with an interest in how our nation got where it is today.
