Shifting the focus off of that deeper issue and targeting another hate-monger, let us talk of Rush Limbaugh. This is one beauty of a quote, “They oughtta change Black History Month to Black Progress Month and start measuring it.”
Let’s rip his microphone away while we are at it when Limbaugh stated, “Why should Blacks be heard? They're 12% of the population. Who the hell cares?” Come on, he has a daily-morning drive show and his way of thinking does influence the way some do think in this country. Yet, where is the wall-to-wall coverage demanding that he too be yanked off the air. The silence is deafening.
Here is yet another charmer coming from Limbaugh, “The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get a liquor store and practice robberies.” Where is the pressure on Clear Channel by various corporations to tell him to knock it off and to apologize? Where is Limbaugh’s pink slip? If Imus can be fired for his remark in which he has had a history of bad remarks, then we must treat all of these folks the same.
I could go on and target others like Michael Savage and Glenn Beck, but you get my point.
As our esteemed media was covering this topic in the only way they know how, which is endless coverage, a more important story came out. Reuters reported: “The suffering of Iraqi civilians is worsening and there is no sign yet that a security crackdown in Baghdad is bringing relief, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said on Wednesday.”
