Day70/March 31st/Tuesday: The President departed the United States to join the G20 London Summit.
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton departed an international discussion on Afghanistan at the Hague for London. Clinton said one of the most promising developments at the Hague’s over seventy nation talks was Iran’s offer to become a part of the efforts to stabilize Afghanistan.
Day71/April1st/Wednesday: The President met with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Russian President Dmitri Medvedev, Chinese President Hu Jintao, British Opposition leader David Cameron, the Queen of England and Prince Philip. Of note in these meetings:
(1) The United States and Russia agreed to reopen talks about reducing their nuclear arsenals. Their last talks were in 1997.
(2) Obama and Medvedev issued a joint statement: “…the era when our countries viewed each other as enemies is long over.”
(3) Obama and Jintao agreed to form a U.S./China strategic and economic dialogue.
Day72/April 2nd/Thursday: At the close of the G20 London summit agreement was reached for:
(1) $1.1 trillion was pledged to the International Monetary Fund for developing countries
(2) tougher financial regulations
(3) stricter standards for executive pay
(4) cracking down on tax havens and hedge funds
(5) the creation of a supervisory body to flag future problems.
The President failed to convince many of the 20 nations to do more stimulous spending.

In the United States, both the House of Representatives and the Senate, with no Republicans voting in favor, passed a trimmed version of the President’s budget.
Day73/April 3rd/Friday: The President held a joint news conference (Video) with French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
