Meanwhile Ukraine President Zelensky has vowed to recapture Crimea as well as all the areas in the Donbass Russia now controls. Russia maintains in any future negotiations ending the war in Ukraine the status of Crimea will not be included.
Looking at the four upcoming referendums in those areas mentioned above; if they like Crimea become part of Russia it wouldn't be a stretch to assume they also would not be included in the negotiations to end the war.
In such circumstances the final borders of Ukraine are unlikely to remain as they do today when negotiations do come about to end the war.
And that doesn't appear to be happening any time soon.
