So what, at long last, does this have to do with Saul Anuzis? Remember how I told you that Mr. Anuzis and Mr. Bristow are old political allies? Check this out:
None of this seemed to bother Anuzis. "This [Bristow] is exactly the type of young kid we want out there," Anuzis, then already the GOP state chair, said on a radio program in May 2007, the year after MSU-YAF's more outrageous activities were made public. "I've known Kyle for years and I can tell you I have never heard him say a racist or bigoted or sexist thing, ever."
mmm-HMMMM. Well. That's just precious, there, sir.
Of course, there IS the chance that Mr. Anuzis is telling the truth. Just because you shake hands with someone and get your picture taken with them doesn't make you equal players in Evil Inc. Remember when Rosalynn Carter posed for a photo with John Wayne Gacy? Does that mean she had young boys buried under the White House floors? Of course not.
But to say that he never heard Bristow say a "racist or bigoted or sexist thing ever" is either sign that he wasn't paying close attention, or has a weird idea of what constitutes such things.
Case in point: some time ago, just before he was going to let the Spartan Spectator crash and burn, Bristow changed the logo at the top of the page to a strange, runic icon with the American flag wrapped inside of it. YAF Watch correctly IDed this as the Odal rune, which has been co-opted by American racialists. At the time, Bristow denied any such connection, weakly claiming that it was a "support our troops" banner. This from someone who thought the war in Iraq was a mistake?
But years later, guess what's on the cover of White Apocalypse?
And what does it mean? Kyle once claimed he didn't know, but if you search the book for "rune" you will see that Bristow knows exactly what it means. And I kind of doubt this is recently-acquired knowledge from how much he goes on about it.
It's also worth noting that, in spite of Bristow's having said many arguably - and inarguably - racist, sexist, and bigoted things since then, we have yet to hear Anuzis distance himself from this "young kid," or repudiate him for having been exactly what his critics said he was all along.
Kyle Bristow is and will always be a nobody, given relevance only by the reactions of others to his racialist prattle. Condemned by his suspicious and poorly-chosen words that can no longer be taken back, and clearly not disposed to do or say anything to apologize for them, he has become a younger, less-avuncular David Duke - unable to divorce himself from "youthful indiscretions" that, thanks to the internet, will most likely be preserved for all time. He may one day wake up and realize that the only race worth fighting for is the human race, to which we all belong, but given that he has $http://www.opednews.com/populum/#!t on that notion from a great height, we remain doubtful that this wake-up call will ever take place.
Saul Anuzis, on the other hand, is seemingly going places - quite possibly to the top of the RNC's totem pole. He should take the time to explain how far he may have walked with Mr. Bristow before he can take another step. And we should all be asking this question very loudly, before he can take Michael Steele's old job, and possibly reward those who got him there with key positions. Â
