Really? My guess is that Schieffer's assessment probably
brought a smile to the face of Romney surrogate John Sununu, the childishly-insufferable
former
New Hampshire Governor/birther who is a Cuban national. But that remark also caused me to wonder if
this debate was being televised in Japan where in fact, nuclear war has been waged.
Nevertheless, save for a minor
skirmish or two -- the most compelling being a glare-down involving the purpose behind a trip to
Israel made in 2008 by then-candidate Obama -- relatively speaking, Schieffer's
missile crisis reference was as explosive as things got. It should be noted that much of Mitt's
tepidity and Obama's often clinically sterile retorts were consequences of some
of the fluffiest of puffball questions for which the correct response required no
more than basic common sense.
"Should the U.S. support Israel?"
Is that a trick question?
"Should the U.S. prevent Iran from
acquiring a nuclear bomb?"
Well, duh!
"What's your position on drones?"
SHEESH!
