That whole escapade had to be forgotten as quickly as possible so Dubya and his crowd soon changed the subject and Saddam Hussein's Iraq became the new enemy de jour.
After Secretary of State Colon Powell's charade at the UN in February 2003 seemingly convincing everyone Saddam had WMD, "Dubya" invaded Iraq in March 2003. His national security advisor Condolezza Rice had talked on the Sunday news circuit of mushroom shaped clouds emanating from Iraq and Hussein was in league with Osama bin Laden in perpetrating 9/11. All lies of course.
Many, most people in the US believed prior to Dubya's invasion, Iraq had WMD. Yet someone who was a real authority, former IAEA inspector in Iraq Scott Ritter in the 1990's, said well before Dubya's invasion that all WMD in Iraq had been discovered and destroyed by him and his team of inspectors. Then Hans Blix the leading IAEA inspector in Iraq prior to the invasion said unequivocally he and his team found no evidence of WMD. Thus attempts of discovering any WMD after the invasion began was a fruitless exercise, a masquerade made to look good.
Obviously Rice lying of mushroom shaped clouds was meant to scare people in the US Saddam actually had a nuclear weapon. It worked.
The idea Saddam was in league with Osama bin laden in perpetrating 9/11 was a hoax. They were sworn enemies. Yet in a poll taken after the invasion when people were asked if Saddam and bin Laden were allies in perpetrating 9/11 some 70% believed they were. The results of that poll seemed unbelievable. Yet it revealed our government's capability in fomenting lies and getting the majority of people to believe them.
On a more recent note let's take a look at Iran, particularly the 2015 nuclear agreement between Iran, US, Britain, France, China, Russia and Germany known as the P5+1 with Iran. The agreement set limits on Iran enriching uranium. Though Iran was in full compliance then President Trump unilaterally withdrew the US from the agreement in 2018.Trump was falsely accusing Iran which contradicted the inspectors on the scene in the country who said Iran was in full compliance. So Trump was lying to the American people about Iran. Who knows how many of his supporters realize he was lying to them. Do they care ? Does it matter to them?
Getting back to COVID since there was no leadership at the top "authorities" in the states, cities and local areas took the reins and as we know a multitude of measures were instituted i.e. face masks, social distancing, washing of hands along with closing the schools, "non-essential" businesses closed-which perpetrated severe unemployment nationwide. Was it all necessary? Were all the restrictions scientifically based? Man has survived countless viruses over the centuries. Why was this one so Fauci soon became the government's guru telling the people what they should do.
At this point the horse is "out of the barn", in this instance the COVID horse. So maybe now asking any questions about what Fauci and other government "authorities" say is too little and too late.
Being skeptical and trusting what government says and does will have to be on other problems and issues it tells lies about to the American people.
