Rather than confront the deadly Covid 19 pandemic in a serious way, Trump and his stooges concentrated on plotting ways to leverage the pandemic to gain electoral advantage.
Enter Republican mega donor and Trump toadie Louis DeJoy. Trump nominated DeJoy to fill the Postmaster General vacancy. DeJoy was subsequently approved and set about kneecapping the Postal Department's ability to deliver mail on time. The obvious goal being to slow down the delivery of the necessarily inflated number of mail-in ballots (heavily Democratic) as Election Day approached. Anyone paying attention realized what was going on, but response was tardy, and DeJoy basically said to court orders: sorry folks - nothing I can do about it!
The reality of blocks long voter lines and limited availability of voting machines - primarily in areas of high Democratic participation - is an outrage that no legal system in a "democracy" should permit! This is obvious stuff that is roundly ignored, and thereby allowed to continue, but why?
In spite of Trump and the Republican Party's concerted efforts to undermine U.S. democracy, Trump lost; and, almost 80% of the public agrees that he lost - this obviously includes a large percent of Trump voters.
Trump could be compared to Nero if Nero had smashed his fiddle and used the pieces as kindling to torch Rome and the rest of the world. During the past four years, Trump has emphatically demonstrated that he is, at his core, - a grotesquely malevolent and incompetent fraud.
A third-rate reality show host and his traitorous enablers will apparently be prevented - for the time being, anyway - from applying the coup de grace to the U.S.'s 230+ yr. experiment in constitutional democracy, and over 70 million citizens of the United States will bemoan that fact.
No surprise, early indications are that Republican treachery will continue as witnessed by the actions of Trump appointee and head of the General Services Administration Emily Murphy who has blocked funding for the Biden transition team. Biden's access to intelligence briefings has also been blocked. This kind of petty spite is a hallmark of Trumpism (Republicanism). Apparently any perceived threat to the The Grift necessitates gratuitous obstructionism!...nice people.
Post 2020 election, the neo-fascist Republican Party will certainly redouble its efforts to convert the U.S. to a 21st century feudal regime, and millions of Americans will cheer their efforts.
