"Mexico has denied responsibility, citing American social decay as the primary factor in the overdose crisis".

Thus far the Biden administration has not designated the cartels as terrorist.

Truth be told this is not an issue this writer has followed. But two things struck me as I read the article.

Firstly, going to war with Mexico. Are these Congressmen insane?

Secondly, as to the drug epidemic in the US? Mexico is most likely correct deeming social decay in America as the primary factor in the overdose crisis.

What struck me as "familiar" is the US going to war against anything be it poverty, drugs, terrorism. All symptoms of underlying problems. Besides terrorism is a tactic. How do you go to war against a tactic? Something "Dubya' Bush never understood or obviously could care less about in his global war on terror.

Instead of taking on what are the causes behind poverty, the causes behind drug use and overdoses and the causes behind terrorism in this country the government goes to war against them. Why? Because going to war against something says you mean business.

Only it's all guaranteed to fail. Does the government really care whether poverty, drugs, terrorism continue unabated? No. Because solutions are never intended to be dealt with.

The same can be said for the actual wars the US has engaged in i.e. Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan. All failures. Again so what? The big weapons manufacturers benefit from these wars. And winning them is not necessary. Only having them is all that's necessary.

Now the idea put forward by a few Congressional crackpots of actually invading Mexico.

Wouldn't that be a war of aggression? Sure according to the Geneva Convention listing war of aggression as the worst type of war. Does the US government care if it engages in a war of aggression? No. Why? Their attitude is who is going to stop us? And they're probably correct in that assessment as the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq revealed quite clearly.

The sense here is even though the Congress is as corrupt as it is there are enough of these otherwise sad sacks that would not go along with the crazies pushing for a war with Mexico.

Yet who knows? One can never be sure what these politicos will do. Hopefully enough of them have some sanity left they'll reject the insane scheme these Repubs are pushing for. Let's hope they do.
