The foundational idea of democracy is that the human voice has innate meaning and that this meaning is expressed individually. Around this idea develops the problem of 'values'. When there is a serious clash of conflicting ideas and values, then the core meaning of democracy is lost in the battle to simply win the majority vote and have the dominant power. If this clash becomes intense enough it can lead to violent action overriding the vote and 'revolution'. Again, the core meaning of democracy that is lost is the innate meaning of the human voice expressed individually. Equality of voice across the board. Now equality of voice does not mean equality in value of differing ideas or values. It means that depth and real validity of ideas and values in any individual is achieved only through a dialectic evolution in human consciousness forged in the intense furnace of reality. I am in favor of true democracy and I am against majority-rule. I am in favor of forced consensus, forced by the fire of reality. This fire is the only place where real growth and progress happens. Political activity always happens in avoidance of reality, not in engagement with reality. I am in favor of consensus arising because people have no choice but change and growth if they want to avoid self-destruction. I don't want the oligarchs removed from power because of some political machinations that can in time be reversed. I want them removed from power by way of being directly confronted with the reality of opposing power (in the form of individuals) that refuses to surrender its equality of voice and also refuses to take away equality of voice from the opponent. In this manner the entire context of power begins to disintegrate and everyone is forced to carry their ideas and values deeper into reality. I am against "political revolution" and I am in favor of real revolution which involves dismantling the very structural means by which people create inequality of voice. This can only be done by literally forcing consensus through genuine democracy: equality of voice across the board. This means NO PEACE until there is consensus. This moves everyone into the fire of reality and makes growth and progress real. This is real revolution. This is real evolution.
Evolution
The greatest enemy of human growth is the belief that there is any such thing as a normal, finished human being. We are transitional. We are stuck in the bog of the belief that we know what a human being is in the sense of a finished entity. We culturally carry around the idea of evolution, but we have no idea or imagination or vision of what that might actually mean in relation to humans currently in existence.
There is no excuse for poverty anywhere. All economic failure is a failure of imagination ethos. We have no imagination about economy because we have no imagination about ourselves. We are dying in the bog of believing that we are what we are and that's all we ever can be. It's a disease that is a sickening mix of ignorance and petty cowardice and a fundamental lack of self-respect as human beings. We don't want to look at what we really are and then look at what we might really be if we have the courage to step into the fire of reality-evolution.
