The foundation of democracy is boldly stated in the Declaration of Independence: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal. . . ." People are obviously not equal in their talents, in their marketability as factors of production. Theirs is an equality of value, a value not found on any capitalist scale. The value of a person is that of an end, as part of a community to which capital growth is entirely subordinate. Capitalism is inherently anti-democratic.
