Right wing idiots like Bill O'Reilly have made Christmas toxic. There SHOULD be a war against his way of using and abusing Christmas

This is a funny week, running up to the holidays. It's already Hanukah. Roads are literally jammed with shoppers doing last minute buying. One of our articles today points out, in discussing how the founding fathers felt about Christmas, that Christmas wasn't even a legal holiday until 1870. Idiotic Creeps like Bill O'Reilly struggle to hold on to their shrinking cretin viewer base by talking about the war on Christmas. (The base is shrinking. The cretins are staying the same size, except, perhaps, their brains.)

Part of the war on Christmas is a good thing. It's a war against commercialization, against corporatization of Christmas, against shallow, devoid of meaning images, symbols and sayings. It would be a true Christmas miracle to see people light up-- like our interfaith minister at Pebble Hill Church spoke about this Sunday-- to see the ligtht, to find the light in people-- rather than for right wing fundamentalist, extremist hate-embracing X-tians finding more reasons to be angry, to find differences to DEMAND control, to insist that other people to things THEIR way.

It is ironic that Xmas was enacted as a holiday in 1870 and not long after, a crooked clerk in the Supreme Court doctored the records so corporations were given human rights-- corporate personhood is the term. Because corporatization of Christmas has been a sad, disgusting, ugly thing. The idea that a huge percentage of people are giving gift cards-- cards that the corporations have built-in screw-the-recipient rules-- is really sad. People don't even take the time to create or find what gifts will make their loved ones happy. Of course, the gift giving process has metastasized, so now, there are gift businesses-- subscriptions to monthly shipments of fruit, bread, candies...

It is pretty sad when people of different faiths object to celebration of the spirit of Christmas-- of good will towards all, love, kindness, generosity. But idiots like O'Reilly and crass theo-whores like James Dobson have used Christianity as a cover for their grabs for power, wealth, fame... and there are good reasons to oppose those abuses of Christian symbols.

I know someone making each holiday card by hand this year (Christmas, Hanukah, and Holiday greeting.) I love that she's doing that. With all the materials she's putting in them, I'm sure they cost as much or more than brand name cards. But she's putting her love into each one. Maybe we need less presents, less cards and more love.
