The Republican Party does not place as high a priority on winning the Presidency as in adding to the super-majority of State legislative bodies they control. There are not quite 100 legislative bodies in the 50 states (Nebraska is non-partisan, and at least one other state has only one legislative body), and Republicans control 2/3 of them.
This is a conservative country, and many people who wouldn't have dreamed about voting for Romney cheerfully vote in their local Republican incumbent. The Republican Party does not care whether it in nominally only partially in control when it knows that it is controlling the AGENDA.
Besides, Hillary is AIPAC's candidate, and a conservative moderate. That's what people are going to vote for, political spectrum-wise. They got fooled into thinking they were voting in a Progressive, a community organizer, and got a man who won't even just stay out of Iraq.
And she's a rock-'em sock-'em political WOMAN, and there's only one woman in the Republican Party that has the gravitas and the career-- a better one than Hillary's-- and no scandals, who could win: former Senator Olympia Snowe (R-ME). But Snowe absolutely will not run. In most courtly terms she said, of the Senate and her Party, if one can read, she's tired of the bull-hockey.
Snowe could actually defeat Clinton. But that's not part of the GOP's grand strategy.
And besides that, the American people saw the caliber of candidates the GOP was willing to send out there. McCain/Palin!? Romney and the one that looked like the boy from The Munsters?? They were sent on their impossible mission in order to assure people that at least the PROCESS was being maintained.
An actual analysis of Repub-conducted foreign policy would show abject incompetence, failure, and a healthy dose of cynical greed. It would in many ways resemble the record of Dem-led foreign policy! Damned neocons run the show no matter what Party is in nominal power.
But we American people know (if we don't, after the record of this century, than I have no hope for us) we do not have the right to determine as a People how our nation shall conduct itself on the planet. We are allowed no input into issues. We only have the right, subject to obstacles, to vote for a bunch of people who will make their, and our, country do exactly as they please, or as they are told by the owners.
If the GOP finds itself in control of 70% or more Houses and Senates, they probably will feel emboldened to call for a Constitutional Convention and try to get in the draconia that the mostly slavish Democrats (more loyal than opposition) stop at the line of. That is really what they are shooting for, especially the Dominionist wing of the Party with their deep pockets.
This country is in a heck of a fix .
