According to an ABC story, here, Saudi national Gaith Pharaon just got a shiny new $80 million dollar contract from the US military. Only trouble is, he's been indicted by the Justice Department and the French want him for allegedly working in a ring of banks that fund terrorists like al Qaeda. Oh yeah, nearly forgot, he has long standing business and personal ties to George W. Bush.
Mr. Pharaon is doing his part in "the war terror"-. His company, Attock Refinery Ltd, just received a hefty contract to provide jet fuel US bases in Afghanistan. But this is not the first time Mr. Pharaons name has come up to the national spotlight.
He was identified by the Federal Reserve Board as being the frontman for BCCI, Harken Energy, and Cen Trust when those scandals broke. You will recall the Harken Energy investigation that tried to figure out if George W. Bush was guilty of insider trading as he just happened to sell off all of his stocks right before the company went belly up and the company had to admit it had been cooking the books.
"BCCIbecame the focus in 1991 of the world's worst financial scandal and what was called a "$20-billion-plus heist"-. [3] It was found by regulators in the United States and the United Kingdom to be involved in money laundering, bribery, support of terrorism,[4] arms trafficking, the sale of nuclear technologies,"-"- Wiki.
But it was his Cen Trust and BCCI involvement that made him famous.
He's wanted by the FBI for his involvement in those scandals. You will remember that the Cen Trust debacle cost the US taxpayers $1.7 billion and landed the president of the company in jail for 10 years.
But apparently, they didn't get to old Gaith. Why?
Gaith also invested in a little company awhile back called Arbusto (little Bush) it was another George Bush start-up in the oil business. George ran that one into the ground as well but he made some interesting friends while doing it.
But not Gaith. You see, he knew Gaith already. They were classmates and friends from Harvard Business School. You see, George went to Harvard after signing up for the Air National Guard, and he was released to go to Harvard 8 months early before he was called up to go to Vietnam.
And there he met Gaith. Funny how small the world is sometimes.
Now Gaith is also currently wanted by the French for allegedly being involved in a money laundering scandal that involves some hefty Saudi names. In this endeavour it seems that Gaith played a role in funneling money to terrorist groups.
"A 70-page French intelligence report claims: "The financial network of bin Laden, as well as his network of investments, is similar to the network put in place in the 1980s by BCCI for its fraudulent operations, often with the same people (former directors and cadres of the bank and its affiliates, arms merchants, oil merchants, Saudi investors)."
And now he gets big time contracts to help fight "the war on terror"-. Curious ain't it? How the Army gave a contract to a known terrorist financier who was currently wanted by the FBI at the time. I suppose it's all in who you know, huh?
How's Gaith doing? The guy who stole from the US, and billions from the world in general, and helped fund terrorist organizations? How's he doing?
