The Senate voted narrowly Tuesday to move ahead with a measure to extend unemployment benefits for the long-term jobless, despite Republican demands for corresponding budget cuts. On a 60-37 roll call vote, Democrats just cleared the hurdle needed to move on to full debate of the legislation. The final outcome remains in doubt, however, as several Republicans still hope to negotiate further changes to the $6.5 billion legislation. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) accused Democrats of trying to turn the political focus away from Obamaà ??s health-care law.
